  • Lily, do your very best to come on indoors and do something else instead of puffing on those evil things!

Sue - I AM indoors in the warmth and the dry! Just so thankful to all those on here - your good self included! - who have helped me over the last 1 week 3 days to stay off those evil cigs.

Feeling fine today - with a friend and old smoking partner who is still puffing away and boy oh boy does it STINK!!!!

Oddly enough, my cravings aren't when I'm with other smokers (though I haven't had a night out as a non-smoker yet so i am sure that will be tough!). I really do find the smell of cigarettes revolting now even after such a short time as a non-smoker.

My worst cravings are when I am at home, on my own and it feels like something really important and precious is missing. I am still strong though and even though I have sad moments, I haven't been tempted yet...

...And I am SO glad not to be huddled under a tree/canopy/bit of roof-overhang trying to keep myself and my Silk Cut dry for the three freezing minutes it takes to smoke it

Oh heck Lily! :o So sorry as I didn't even see the "NOT" and I was thinking you were the other young lass who was 'thinking' of quitting but so far was only cutting down to start with. Ooops, am I forgiven?!!!! :A

That repulsive smell of those who still smoke so soon hits us, though it goes to show how soon our senses come back. The other sad times are still the grieving process that the majority of us encounter as soon as we quit. In the not so good days it was so simple to have that 'friend' always at the ready for us - but if we'd kept our hands around that so called friend's we'd have soon been in very bad health.

Try and view the letting go of that hand Lily, it belongs to the past along with all the evil sticks. You now walk on a different street than that awful friend that led you astray and into a seedy lifestyle - leave it be Lily and step into the sun on the better, cleaner path of life. You're SO soon at a week and 3 days????? That's gone so very quickly, for me anyway. Many congratulations Lily, I'm so chuffed for you and so proud of your strength and willpower, you've done brilliantly and I hope you feel as proud as is possible!!! :T

    I can't believe I passed the 3 week milestone yesterday :T :T :T

I'm feeling so proud of myself and even managed a wee dram of scotch last night without feeling the usual need to smoke :j :D

The next few weeks are going to be the toughest, not just for me but for all us newbie ex-smokers here, so we need to remain strong and thankful that we've managed to beat the habit long before January and all the NY resolutions come around ;)

I would just like to say, WELL DONE EVERYONE, as I too had my last evil stick of nicotine on 29th May 2008 and so far so good, although I am driving my son and friends nuts with, "whats that smell" I am getting my sense of smell back and almost every day I smell something different, I assume this is with giving up smoking, as its driving me nuts, let alone my family, the other day I was looking for something, and I went into a draw in my lounge well the smell of tobacco hit my nose I was chucking, good god it was horrid, so I have decided to get rid of all the furniture, which I inherited from my folks, its not antique so it doesn't really matter but what it is ,is 40-50 years of smoke, so yeh when I move in the next few months all the furniture is going else where, free cycle probably,
just hope someone who smokes gets it, then it'll fit in nicely, but if they don't it'll start to smell, my SIL who has never smoked, says she cant smell anything, but she isn't sat indoors with it 24/7, has anyone else noticed this, also my books stink of smoke fumes which I am mortified about, I am a book worm, so I am just wondering what to do about those, I have hundreds dating back 45 years, so alot of money, I have some that cost £100, so I need to think of something, and soon.
anyone else got this problem, bicarbonate of soda doesn't seem to make any difference.

A real quickie as I'm at work but wanted to let you know that I am 2 weeks smoke free! Not even a puff! Yesterday was a bit difficult, but I managed it and see it as another milestone passed.

I know what you mean about the sad moments, I try to think of nice things and people and a better future. Or come on here and read all the wonderful supportive posts! Thank you all so much!
  • hello all !!

    I Have had enough !!
I have woken up this morning and put on a t-shirt that i wore for a few hours yesterday and god it stinks of fags !

I cant do it any more!! I am fed up of smelling of silk cut !

so i have decided that tomorrow is the day . I have got some patches that are left over from previous half hearted attempts to stop . I know that this is probably not the best time of years to quit but I am determined and if i dont do it now i am affraid that if i wait i will get complacent and forget my reasons to want to quit . Plus i have still got 9 fags left in the packet and whan they are gone thats it .

I want to list my reasons to quit so that i can look back and remind myself why and to record how i am feeling so here goes ....................

    1) I want to smell nice
    2) I dont want to die early and leave my dd
    3) I have had previous heart trouble
    4) There has been recent cancer scares in both sides of my family
    5) I cant really afford it
    6) I dont want my dd to cuddle me and smell an ashtray any more
    7) I want a nice smelling house and not to be embarrassed when people come to visit
    8) It is too cold to stand outside
    9) I am fed up of always feeling sluggish and down (which i am convinced is smoking related )
    10) I feel like a lepper
    11) I want to be a good role model for my dd
    12) I want to do this

So roll on tomorrow . i actually have a feeling of excitement about this .

I was at the doctor's last week and this guy came and stood by me, well he stunk of fags, it fair nearly knocked me off my crutches, phew, _pale_ anyway I thought good god I used to smell like that, why the hell didn't anyone just grab me and say look you silly bint ya stink and your killing yourself.
whether I would have taken any notice is another matter, but it would certainly have made me think about it.
I am so glad I gave up, what was I thinking of, smoking in the first place, god knows, but I feel alot healthier, and I haven't had a chest infection yet this year, which is one thing, just do some pallettes to keep the weight off if you start putting any on,
and good luck to those who are just doing it now, I don't regret it, one bit, I smell like me now instead of fag ash lil, lol, its amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it.

  • Hi all I know what u mean Ice, Ive been smoke free for 2 and a half months on friday!! To all u smokers lurking, it has honestly gone so fast its unbelievable! As always I would like to take this opportunity to plug Allan Carrs book, the easy way to stop smoking. Get it 2nd hand off ebay, borrow it from the library, cheapest, simplest, sanest way to do it in my opinion!!!
I actually enjoyed stopping smoking and RELISHED the cravings!! The only thing that has bugged me so far is that i went out for a night out, my first smoke free night out EVER, and the next day I had lost my voice!! Unbelievable, didnt touch a fag all night, and got a sore throat lol. The one thing I would say is that u shouldnt avoid smoking situations, as if u r anything like me, every minute of every day is a smoking situation!! Work, parties, nights out, waiting for a taxi/bus/train, at home (dh smokes like a chimney), pretty much everywhere i go someone is lighting up. Thing is, whenever I see someone lighting up, I dont think Im missing out, or how envious I am of them, I feel the complete opposite, like thank god i dont have to do that anymore!! If u see it more as the positive thing it is STOPPING smoking, rather than thinking ur missing out, ie GIVING UP smoking, u r more likely to stop for good.
Ok, rant over lol keep it going guys

What great success Chameleon!!! :T I was so delighted to read that, you're doing yourself so very proud. :j Although the next couple of weeks may be a little difficult you at least have those 3 weeks to hold on to, hang onto thoughts of them at any times of temptation. Take with you visions of us  fuming IF you dare to....! ;)

Well done you too joop!!!:T 2 weeks already then - and that difficult night out overcome!!! :T You have indeed passed another milestone, keep on winning and you'll get there, brilliant news!!!

madmoney, I can scarcely believe it'll be 2 and a half months come Friday!! :T Another amazing success so far and yet another so very intent on getting to that winning post!!! You really have done marvellously especially as your OH still indulges in that nasty habit. All that you wrote makes perfect sense, you've done a great job for others thinking of quitting who read it. Keep it up! :T

Many congratulations Ice!!!! :T :j You've done so very well and should be tickled pink at such a great achievement!!! Re the furniture and books, don't act in haste if it's only you that can smell it as you're smell may change more and you not be able to smell it at all further down the line. How about a really good polish of the furniture using the real wax possibly with a lavender scent? Well worth a try. Don't think of ditching the books either as the same may apply to them. For me the flowers on a buddliea shrub smelled like pipe smoke  for a good 4 years, then the real scent came back!

Good luck with it and good luck to everyone quitting and to all those deliberating, come on in and join us!!!

mammamia2 - we here will all be really rooting for you to quit for LIFE! As I said in the pm, you sound so determined so just keep on reading the 12 reasons above as everyone is a reason to quit for ...and a reason to give yourself a truly wonderful gift for Christmas - the gift of LIFE!!! Come on here and let us know how you're getting on, it'll be so good to hear from you, whether you're having a good day or a not so.

All the VERY best of good fortune!!! :j
