The Giving Up Smoking Thread!!

Hi HW2007,
How's it going?
My motivators were - money - we're setting up a new business and I didn't want to jeopardise it. My kids are at primary school and these places appear to have become the denizens of the 'nag your parents senseless about all of their bad habits' brigade!!
Then, a case of simple maths due to the ban:
I sleep for 7 hours (ish) per night
Work for 8 per day (didn't want to get into the going out at lunchtime habit - means more work at home and less time with my kids.)
My disabled mum lives with us and has local authority carers in twice per day - I was told that I wouldn't be able to smoke for an hour before they come . It made me think about her full time carer who looks after her whilst I am at work - so that meant an hour before she arrives per morning.
Once I'd added it up, it meant that I was able to smoke for very little time per day and suddenly it didn't seem worth it!!
I worked it out at 18 hours per day, but check my maths by all means!!
Take care and keep it up,
Tilly
xxThanks to this fantastic site and it's amazing people, we have paid over £63, 000 off - just over half way!!!:T THANK YOU:T0 -
Woo hoo, 3 weeks today! I can't believe how slowly that has gone! I feel like I've been a non smoker for a year. I don't mean in that its easy and I don't want a cig, I mean it just feels like forever ago that I last had a cig. My OH has returned to normal THANK GOD! I thought I was going to have to force feed him nicotine gum at one point. I've really noticed this week the extra money. I got out £30 on Monday I think and I still have £25! If I was still smoking I'd have about a fiver left by now. Much healthier for me and my bank balance. I'm sending everybody good thoughts for the day, think about that £2000 a year tax free pay rise we've all given ourselves, yey!Quit smoking 12th July 07 :j0

Hi,
Am on chapter 4 of AC's book. It says not to stop smoking while you're reading the book so I'm not. I didn't get time to read it last night so just read it on way in to work 2day. I've got tomorrow off though so aim to finish chapter 12 (i.e. halfway) by tomorrow night.
I'm going cold turkey. I haven't had a look at the first post yet so shall go and check that out now.

:T Wooohooo Olive well done :j
I've also noticed the money, I've not been saving it like I should've been doing (would've really come in handy when we go on holiday in a couple of weeks) but I usually have to go to the cash point every day and obviously you break a tenner and you spend the rest on rubbish. I've only been to the cash point twice in the last week I think!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Hi J, no worries, follow the AC rules and you'll be giving yourself the best chance. I gave up for 2 years after reading AC and the last one I smoked was the most satisfying, not because I enjoyed it but I felt I'd been released.
Obviously was oblivious to the fact that 2 years later I'd get drunk and start all over again :rotfl:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
congratulations Olive
well done you!

Hi all,
woahhh.....
Just finished playing my weekly football! I did feel alittle more energised!! Had our ritual post-match drink. And on the way home.....
.....I got one almighty craving for those horrible little things that I gave up on Sunday just gone.
It was close. But I'm happy to report - I didnt give in! So I'm still smoke free!
Good to hear everyone else is doing so well!!! You should be all very proud of yourselves...! :T
Continued good luck and keep me posted on your progresses.....it's very good motivation indeed.
Cheerio!I gave up smoking on: Sunday 29th July 2007 @ 7.38pm!

Motivators for quitting:
(1) New baby due in October 2007
(2) Financial
(3) Stop ignoring / resenting / inconveniencing family & friends when I need to have a cigarette0 -
Well done HW2007 - those cravings can be killers! Exercise is apparently particularly good when quitting - have to confess, cycling to work (only 10 mins away lol) is my limit!!
Take care and stay smoke free,
IDA
