  • Hi jo,

Thanks for your advice. Week 3 just coincides with the start of the football season (I hear you groan!) - so it could be doubly difficult! :) But I'm adamant that I'm not going to give in - but thanks for the reminder...

I'm going to a leaving do in the next week or so....another temptation to smoke. But again, I'm not giving in - I keep reminding myself its now or never. If I smoke again, and try to give up I'm back to square one. I've come "this far" theres no turning back now...

    good luck everyone! :T

Good luck at the leaving do, although remember the smoking ban so hopefully nobody will be smoking anyway!!

I would normally groan at the footie season starting but I've just started matched betting so really looking forward to making some serious money!!!

Hello Storm and HW2007:hello: Well done for deciding to quit! I can only say that everyone on here is really nice and helpful, and def read all the tips on the 1st page and look at some of the links. The silkquit metre is always there on your desktop to remind you how many cigs you haven't smoked and how much £££ you've saved which is great.

If you're going cold turkey (I am, apart from 1 gum on the second day) and you've gone more than 3 days without a cig then don't have any NRT if you can help it. The nicotine leaves your system after 3 days so any craving you have after then is probably not for nicotine, it will be more of a pyschological thing. If you put nicotine back in your body after those 3 days then you're reintroducing the thing that makes you want a cig the most. I've got the gum still in my handbag though, and its been 3 weeks! I've always said in a moment of weakness I'd rather have it there then have a cig. You've got to do what works for you.

Jo, well done for 'fessing up and stopping again! The most important thing if you have a cig is not to feel like a failure and to carry on quitting. :T Thats quite enough wisdom from someone who has only given up for 3 weeks, but I've read enough about it to last me a lifetime! Have a fresh-air day everyone

Thanks Olive, that's just what I wanted to hear right now! I know it all of course but just needed a reminder. Having my worst lunchtime craving so far on day 7! I know I'll be fine, keep remembering Max 'woshisname's smoking video and that makes me remember why I'm doing it. But you just gave an excellent piece of advice, thanks again :T

  • You're/we're all doing brilliantly - the craving itself is tough the time in between cravings is ace. I think of it like labour (sorry guys and childless gals you'll just have to pretend lol) the craving is the contraction and the bit in between is where we regain our strength, but qutting smoking is labour in reverse, contractions are only minutes apart to begin with but the gap grows with time!
    Take care all.

  • What I found helped was to have a goal totally unrelated to quitting smoking. Focus completely on that and you won't hardly think about the fact you've stopped smoking.

  • wooooohhh.....

I'm sure this is a common occurrence but...

When I was walking home from work I had one of those thought's: "I've done very well not smoking for 3 days, I'll have a cigarette." - geez where did that come from!! Doesn't your mind play funny tricks! Dont worry I didn't fall for these thoughts, I carried on walking! (hadn't got money or my bank card on me anwyways!)

    cheerio for now....:p

  • Hi Helloworld,
Don't worry it is normal to try and 'reward' yourself for going without cigs - I substituted another reward. Unfortunately, consuming my own body weight in chocolate was not the best plan!!! LOL.

Have given up on that challenge and just battling the cravings - fewer now 1 month in. The people on here have kept me going and on the straight and narrow - IDA and JO are the most patient and kind people - I owe many a craving beating to them - either with their advice, or the thought of telling them that I had 'fallen by the wayside'

    All the very best

    Tilly
