OK, so we're needing a kick up the bum on this thread. I'm as much to blame as everyone. We need to regularly note down our non-smoking days just as much as money saving ones cos we can not get complacent!

So we need to get some ideas together to keep the morale up, I thought I'd add to the first post on this thread with the benefits we've found since giving up, that way everyone that reads the first post that has given up remembers why, or those that haven't yet will feel spurned on by what they've got to look forward to. Or indeed those that have given up that is about to start again might read the list and change their mind! Maybe we can convince some of the old posters to come back, either to tell us they're still off the weed or that they are gonna try again - falling off the wagon happens to all of us and we completely understand!

I shall make a list tomorrow morning (bit busy tonight!), and start with what ILA has already posted previously plus I'll try and think of a few of my own. Feel free to add the things you think are better now you don't smoke, no matter how small or trivial, or you think is just 'you'. It's a benefit to everyone!!
Hello all you non smokers. I gave up 4 weeks ago yesterday. I am using Champix and very sorry to say this bit it has been very easy. So far.

    So, positive thoughts.

People not backing off from smelly smokers breath.
OH saying how much better the flat smells now
No nasty clearing your throat all the time
Taking deep breaths of clean air
    Being a bit richer
PINK TONGUE {IDA has one} so do I
Your lungs getting rid of gunk
    Clean fresh hair and clothes
Paintwork will stay whiter as will ceilings
    Lovely clean teeth
    More energy
    Ateries becoming un - clogged
    Longer life
Not having to go outside the pub for one
Laughing at those who do have to go outside for one
Moaning about all the butts they leave outside
Hope that helps for now it can only get better we are ALL DOING SO WELL be proud of ourselves we have earned it.
Have not gone back to the gym but have bought a tricycle instead. Will explain why another time.
Keep on quitting, take care all,
    ILA

  • Evening All,
Been to another party and survived!!! Didn't make anyone smoke near to me so I could passive and had a really good time. Overheard OH telling people that 'She just gave up - no problem at all' - now I was under the distinct impression that I had been one of Beelzebub's denizens for the last month - how did I get this idea? Why from himself of course!!

Mmmm, need to ponder this - pmt due soon so may need to make him suffer even more - moaned at me for a month for 'my' behaviour and yet in vino veritas!!!!

Oh boy will he pay!!!! I've been feeling guilty and ignoring excessive football matches on tv (It's the summer for G's sake!!) and him not decorating as was promised, all because I thought I'd been grumpy!!! No more my friends, no more!!!:D :D

Take care, we're doing brilliantly and thanks to each other, we will continue to do so!!!

    Tilly

Having a bad night with the cravings, don't know why tonight cos nothing's happened  just wanna go to bed but dh thinks I should stay up and spend some time in front of the telly with him while he ignores me (can you sense my mood?) but I feel that going to sleep 30 minutes earlier does not mean I'm boring or lazy, just purely diverting myself from wanting cigerettes and making myself more beautiful ;)

    Hmmmm roll on tomorrow.....

  • Oh Jo I'm so with you - what a sh***y weekend I've had too!! (ooh I'm rhyming things are looking up - lol !). I've spent the day today rebuilding/ghosting my pc - don't ask me what happened haven't a clue but lost the lot and then my back-up disc wouldn't run either -grr. So have just spent the last 9 hours sorting it out!!!
But thats nothing compared to Friday when I was witness to a man collapsing and stopping breathing (whilst I held his head) and feeling helpless cause I hadn't a clue what to do and the poor mans wife and son were watching. Thankfully a first aider very soon arrived (although it felt like hours) and they started cpr until the paramedics arrived and stabilised him - I've no idea how or even who he is but was/am so truamatised by the whole thing and pray for him and his family.
MY MAIN REASON FOR STOPPING SMOKING IS SIMPlE LIFE IS PRECIOUS!
Thank you all for being here - my virtual family mean so much to me!
love and hugs all (and give your loved ones an extra hug)
    IDA

    STILL Never complacent but confident
    My debt is GOING DOWN!!!!
  • Hello all, IDA how very glad that poor man's wife and son must have felt for you taking care of that man.
What a kind caring non smoker you are.
Jo it is almost a full moon that is why your 'im indoors is being like that.
    Take care quitters,
    ILA

Well done IDA for being there! I hope he recovered ok, did he have a heart attack or summat? I'm a first aider and have come across a few situations. I never saw anything till I started training and now I seem to be a regular accident chaser lol!

Where is everyone? Have you all fallen off the wagon or so confident you don't need us anymore??

I'm still finding it tough today although knowing that I got through last night (which was really tough!) has improved my spirits somewhat. Unfortunately today though I'm having problems fitting into new clothes that I've only had for 2 weeks  so I've put myself on a fruit and veg only diet for the next 2 weeks (I go on holiday 2 weeks today ), no more choklit, biscuits or crisps for me :(

  • oi! As one of the only fellas on the thread, I'll have you know, my BH said that I have been well behaved and not that short!

Hectic weekend, Cinema Friday night, went away on Saturday (out for dinner too) then went to a concert last night! Bank balance isn't going to be too healthy....

But on the other hand, the money I have saved this month has more than paid for a well earned weekend away (especially as I have to work all day/night friday saturday this week)

Still going well though... keep it up folks!
The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.
  • Hi all!
Jo I know what you mean about the struggle. You are however doing brilliantly and as the founder of this forum should be praising yourself because without this forum I don't think I would be here now. So my successful quit is largely to do with you :A ! I haven't posted as much for a couple of reasons
    1. cause I suppose it is getting a little easier (although yesterday was really
tough and involved lots of deep breathing and growling!!)
    and
    2. cause I felt I was monopolising the thread and thought I might have been getting on peoples nerves - aah!

I'm putting weight on too and really can't afford to cause I'm already a little overweight so trying to take control of the "picking" big time.
Anyway just thought I'd let you know its been
    :j 5 WEEKS :j

although my silkquit metre says 1 month 5 days and that feels significantly less than 5 weeks somehow  !! Doesn't matter though I'm still here and never thought I would be :D !

    Thank you all!

If you're still quitting  let us know how you're getting on, if you've fell off the wagon good luck for the next time!!

    Love and hugs

Well feel quite good now, just eaten crackers, philly light, ONE slice of ham, cherry toms, cucumber and beetroot then finished off with a pear and am now half way though a bag of snack-a-jacks....got an apple and banana for later :D Whilst walking to the shop to get my healthly lunch I walked past a group that now stands outside their office smoking, MY GOD DID IT STINK!!!!
