Morning all.. Phew! trying to get through all of yesterday's posts!!
Hi Suki- well done for the 3 days...... Oops nice to have you back, well done on not smoking and on passing exams.
skintnow and diamond- don't let it get you down- you are NOT a failure.. it's just hard !
And diamond- Happy Birthday today !!!
Had a funny old day yesterday. Walked up to asda after work- about 10 minutes walk. It was dark but thought I'll get the exercise. Anyway on the way back (had no phone on me left it at home) realised was being followed by a man and he was closing in, quickly... panicked didn't know what to do- so knocked on someones door and said 'let me in someones following me'... bless them 2 lads who lived there let me in and let me ring my boyfriend, he came round and got me.... so frightened...
Then couple of hours later went to see my friend haven't seen her since last year, she sat there and smoked 5 cigarettes in front of me in her house.
SO badly wanted one after what had happened but didn't cave. Also it gave me a headache and felt awful when I got home.
I didn't want to have one to go through all this again. Still, I understand that it's so easy to give in. Don't beat yourselves up. It's a drug !
have a great day, V xMTC's NO MORE PIES MEMBER NO 202 !!!

Morning all.
Well im on countdown to tommmorws quit day. Have to pick up my perscription from doctors this afternoon for my patches ( im lucky as i get free prescriptions with being on working tax credits) and will collect them ready for the start of my smoke free life tommorow.
I have already cleared the car of old fag packs and lighters and cleaned out the outdoor ashtray that will be used for guest from now on.
I plan to change my whole rountine in the morning so i will get dressed before coming downstairs and have got some orange jiuce in to have instead of my normal coffee, also have loads of mints and chewing gum around the house, on bedside table, in fridge, in the car, in handbag, coat pockets everywhere, so now just need to get my head clear, i have bought loads of cleaning products i wouldnt normally buy and intend to spend the day cleaning and making the house smell nice and hopefully that will keep me busy.
Well done to all of you for doing so well, a good luck to those just starting out...this is quite scary isnt it!!

Hello there all you miserable ex smokers. Just popped in to say knickers to quitting.
I'm 86 been smoking 30 a day since i was 12 and it's never bothered me unlike my dad who smokes far more it's taking it's toll now. He reckons he wont do no more than 6 marathons this year.0 -

Patches are great for providing a baseline of nicotine whilst you break the smoking habit - but you are used to having a "hit" of nicotine.
Therefore, when the urge to have a fag overwhelms you, have a pinch of snuff - this provides a similar hit to a ciggie, without the nasties. Indeed, there is no evidence that nasal (or "dry") snuff causes any ill effects - as opposed to oral snuff (dipping tobacco), which is nasty.
It's also good for long flights, when previously I wanted to rip the head off passing strangers, this was reduced to only passing violent tendencies. Much better.
I'm sorry but I just had to respond to this before I finished reading what everyone else has been up to.. SNUFF is still tobacco and as much of a drug as cigarettes - it's just a different form!!!! If you think snuff is a safe option please read this...

So I'm sorry but there is no way snuff is a safe alternative "without the nasties". If you are quitting don't touch it with a bargepole!!!!QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0 -

Been to the clinic today and asked about champix, they would not agree to prescribe it do to a massive over spend at the primary care trust. She was helpful though a told me to see a doctor and he might be able to help. So not put off i asked at the reception for the next available appointment, which happened to be in 10 mins time due to a cancellation. To cut a long story short the Dr still refused to prescribe it on the NHS, but he did agree to write a private prescription but i would have to pay, which i always said i would.
So hopefully the tabs will be ordered tomorrow and i can start my treatment next week.
Will keep you all informed on my progress!
Cheers

Right, I think I've caught up now!!
Suki - end of day four...? How's it going? Are you noticing that the cravings are less today? As Champix doesn't have any nicotine in it you definitely should be free of that now. :j
Donna - how's it gone today? Are you okay?
skint and Diamond (HAPPY BIRTHDAY DIAMOND78!) - don't feel bad. Feeling guilty will just sink you lower. Forgive yourselves and move on. Hopefully today has been better? Let us know how you are getting on. A slip up is only a mistake if you don't learn from it. Now you know how you feel if you give in and have one and it's a RUBBISH feeling. Don't forget how that felt - write it down if you have to. Then if you ever get an urge again you can read it back, remember how awful it made you feel and you can go and find something constructive to do instead!!
Oops - you little star!! Yes, 3 days of no patches and you will be NICOTINE FREE!! It's a great feeling. My confidence soared when I realised that I'd actually done it and was stronger than the drug that I'd been a slave to for 22 years. Go for it girl!!
basilcat - OMG what a nightmare, glad you are okay!! That would have freaked me out too hun. After it being normal to have a ciggie when we feel shakey you did brilliantly to ignore that little craving. You've cracked it!! Once you get through one situation that you didn't think you'd be able to do without a fag, the rest are a doddle.
Hi jo, TNG and tattycath - hope you're all well

Well done you Skint, for not being put off at the first hurdle!!! It's probably a bad time of year - lots of budgets run from April to March, so they're probably getting near the end of this year's budget and things are tight!! It seems mad when prescribing things like Champix could potentially save ten times that much in medical care for smoking-related diseases, but the NHS doesn't always make sense like that does it?!!!
Do let us know how you're getting on when they arrive. We'll be thinking of you!QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0
