  • Melbury: 72 hours is when the worst of the fysical withdrawel is at it's height. After that, it gets easier.. When you've gone 72 hours without a smoke, you have won the first and toughest battle!

Antronella: Don't beat yourself up dear! You've done great! It is an addiction, and a tough one at that! You will do it! I just know you will.

Try to remember that with each puff, you are breathing new life into that nicotine monster. So try not to give in to him. You'll only make him stick with you longer. We all know how hard it is, and you are doing brilliantly!

Kayree: How are you doing on day 2? Hang in there girl!

Enjoy your smokefree day everybody! I'm off swimming with my kids this afternoon and I"l be able to enjoy it and spend all my time with them instead of standing outside shivering to have a smoke!

    have a good day!

Melbury, after 72 hours your body has rid all of the nicotine and so cravings should start to improve, you will soon start to get the quitters cough where your body starts to chuck out all the toxins in the lungs, mmmmmmm, see it as a positive thing :D

I don't want to get quitters cough - I have done nothing but cough for the past four days ever since I caught this bug, which is what triggered the stopping smoking in the first place!
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

Yeah but you get a weird sense of satisfaction knowing that your body is ridding all that tar!!

The trouble with giving up cigarettes is that there is nothing you can replace them with that gives the same satisifaction. If I had to stop eat chocolate that would be no problem at all (I hardly ever eat it anyway) and of course a different food can be substituted.

I would honestly say that for the past 8 years or so my smoking has been very light. As previously mentioned, I don't buy factory made ciggies, I roll my own using the tiniest filter tip, which results in a cigarette about a third of the size of a bought one and on average I smoked about 10 of these per day. That really sounds like I am trying to justify the habit doesn't it? I suppose I just considered that although I was a smoker, I was more of a good smoker than someone just buying packets of fags.

Also, I always believed that smoking rolling tobacco was less harmful than bought cigarettes because it doesn't contain all of the additives - do you think this is TRUE? Is rolling baccy just pure tobacco with no rubbish added? As you will all undoubtedly know, a cig made from rolling tobacco goes out if left, whereas ordinary cigs just keep burning away.

Now the things I won't miss about smoking are:

Having to make the cigarettes every evening.

Having to scour my fingers with a pumice stone every night to get the tar staining off -definitely one of the drawbacks of rollups!

Being smelly and always having to make sure I have got mints on me to mask the stench!

Sorry everyone, I know I am waffling again, but it does help.

  • You waffle away all you want if it helps. You are doing well, just having an internal mental battle. Be strong and you will come through it ok. You have listed the disadvantages of smoking and not many +'s. There is not a lot to enjoy about the taste of fags at all. It is only giving you a fix from the nicotin addiction. Did you enjoy your first fag. I doubt it so try to think back when you first began and how long it took you to "Enjoy" the taste. I loved the taste of chicken when i first had it and didnt have to make myself sick to enjoy it.

    You know it makes sense.

    Good luck

  • Hi

As Jo says I was going to give up on the 1st but as I have now brought it forward I need another challenge so I am not going to drink Alcohol for the month of January and see how I get on. I do like a beer however but I seem to like it too often and in larger quantitys than I used to :o .

Hope you all have a great smoke free Sunday

Happy roasts to one and all.

  • Well done on taking the plunge nirelandguy

Once you have stopped smoking we can work on your unfortunate addiction to Liverpool Fc. Much more unsettling :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Only joking but living in Kent and being a Utd supporter(must be local) I couldnt resist.

  • Hi all hope you are having a lovely day. I am halfway trough day 2 cold turkey quit, (though I did cheat this morning I stayed in bed untill late) Then I did an Asda shop (carnt smoke in there) now I am busy reading posts to occupy my mind. Trying not to dwell on smoking as I have done in the past. So am concentrating on my finances as there is no point in trying to concentrate on my waist line, major munches just round the corner. Actually looking forward to going back to work, no munchies there he he. Beccatje thanks for remembering me it helps to have someones support none in 3d thanks again
