I smoked my last, last night Friday 28th Dec, just thought I would mark my first day, it is a cold turkey quit and thus far feel ok
luck to all you quitters, I would rather climb a mountain, than crawl in a hole
Good luck kayree41 - keep coming back and let us know how you are getting on. Now that I am getting over my bug I am missing the cigs a lot more, but keep telling myself they are not my friend! (aaaaaaaarrrrrrrhhhhhh)Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Scared that folks would say: "Oh you're quitting again? I wonder how long for this time?"
Heh, that I CAN relate to!!! Even my 13 year old neice said "err, well, that's great news just see if you can keep it up"... :rotfl: Nobody who knows me ever thought I would do it.
Actually, since I quit two of my friends have done it saying "well if Helen can do it then anyone can!" Yup, I was THAT bad. :rotfl:
One more piece of advice to the person who said they were cutting down. DON'T!!! God, that is a million times harder than quitting!! You are putting yourself through the worst part of quitting (i.e. the withdrawal) every single day!! If you just quit, you only have to put up with that for 3 days at most. It is human nature not to deny yourself but to feed a desire or addiction. That is precisely why people who cut down end up back to their prior level (or more) within a very short time. It is much harder to cut down than to quit.QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0 -
I bought that Allen Carr book about four years ago but have never got around to reading it. Somebody told me that you have to be smoking while you read it, so presumably it wouldn't help me now!! I did hope all those years ago that just buying the book would somehow make me give up.
Melbury you do not HAVE to be smoking while you read the book. If you have already quit, the only good reason to read the book is if you are missing ciggies. If you feel that you are depriving yourself of a pleasure or that quitting has left some sort of gap in your life, then I urge you to read it! It will help take away all the myths you still have in your mind about what smoking used to do for you. If there is any part of your brain that still believes you get ANYTHING from smoking a ciggie, the book will help you.
You have achieved something amazing and you don't deserve to spend the rest of your life believing that you are missing out on something because you are NOT. You only smoked because you were addicted to nicotine. You are no longer addicted and smoking wouldn't do a single thing for you now, I promise.QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0 -
I have just been looking on YouTube under the quitting smoking section, absolutely scary video.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

Melbury, you are so right they are not your friend, they give us a few minutes gratification for a lifetime of slavery, if we let them my friend. Keep strongGrocery Challenge Jan £300

There are some scary stories on WhyQuit.com too. Thing is, you can't tell yourself that it's not real because it IS. Stopping smoking can seriously reduce your chances of going through that. I know nobody can choose their own fate but if I have the chance to swing the odds towards passing away peacefully in my sleep or going though months of pain and hell because of a stinking habit that has cost me thousands of pounds? No brainer really, isn't it...QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j0

Well done Kayree41!!!
Day 1 IN THE POCKET!..
You're a star already! Nibbly is okay. anything better than lighting that cigarette. And think of it this way, by the time the rest of the country is quitting on Jan. 1st or 2nd you'll have the worst over and done with!
You're going to do great! Tomorrow is day 2 already and you'll kick that lil' monster right off of your shoulder.

Found you:j
knew there would be a quit smoking thread somewhere on this site.
And a few names I notice from the january grocery challenge.
Well smoking has got to go as I need to save £4000 by June for dental implants.
I have to admit to smoking at least 30 a day:eek: and have done for 29 years.
I have tried before, once, 15 years ago on the day that my now hubby and I moved in together. That lasted almost a month. Too many changes at once I think had me reaching for the fags.
I have decided to pick the 3rd week of jan to quit.
Reasons:
1. Dealing with small bathroom flooding problem at the moment
2. I go back to work on Wednesday with a new manager that I dont know, small sales office of 5 people, so already bit stressed about that.
3. The following week dental appt for xrays/moulds etc for treatment plan for implants, (hate going to dentist) and my its my dads birthday, Big weekend away thing.
This also gives me time to adjust to the idea.
Any advice re cutting down first or just stop?
Thanks folks0
