It would be nice to have the whole of December free from smoke and the fact I shall be going back home for Christmas (where it would be impossible to smoke anyway, or extremely difficult) I would like to see that I can do it on my own at the beginning as I know I won't have a problem back home. If I started the day I went home the problem would be when I returned - as it was before!

Right, home and had dinner so all set for the evening :D

mumzy, I will dig out that book this evening and post it to you tomorrow. In the meantime PLEASE carry on reading bits and bobs from the WhyQuit.com website. I have tried to quit a few times before and I tell you what, the only thing that has made this time SO EASY is education!! I had got to the point where I literally hated nicotine and was desperate to be clean of it!!!

Deakes, I didn't realise you were using NRT. Like I said a few posts ago, I do think the most important thing is getting off ciggies and if they help then great. My only reservations with NRT products are that you are still getting the "drug" which is the root of the whole smoking problem. If ciggies didn't have nicotine in them, you wouldn't bother smoking them. The reason every smoker gets stuck in the smoking pit is because of nicotine! But I think if you get your head around the "never take another puff" rule and know that you can NEVER have a single drag of a ciggie ever again, you will get through it. Once the lozenges stop are you confident you can stay off nicotine for life? If you know what knocked you off the straight and narrow last time you can make sure it doesn't happen again!

Personally (having tried patches, gum and cold turkey) I have to say that NRT made things harder and I found it a million times easier just to cut out nicotine altogether. You see results faster and feel calmer quicker so it feels like the "healing process" starts earlier. The whole point of quitting is to make a really positive change in your life and you FEEL the results so much quicker when you just quit all that rubbish. It's a lot cheaper too! ;)
