How do u manage not havin a cig? and the morning craving which gets me the most? well done tho xx

Mumzy, I got up late this morning on purpose, at 8.00am, instead of 7, so I didn't have time to think about a cigarette, the children had to be out of the house by 8.30am, and when I came home from school cleaned my teeth again and have done so 3 times since, it takes the edge off. The longest I have managed is three days but I am determined to stop, although I have got to admit I use to enjoy a cigarette, The last cig I have was midnight last night so I have gone 14.5 hours, I'm doing well and have saved £1.50 so far, I smoked on average 13 a day.

Today it was il just have one.
    so upset with myself

As JoeHel quite rightly pointed out - there's no such thing as just one. Remember that, it's vital.

Don't be upset - just use that as motivation for next time

Have you read any of (our) recommended books? - Allen Carr, Neil Casey?

mumzy PLEASE PM me your name and address. I will send you my copy of the Allen Carr book and happily pay the postage. PLEASE let me help you!! It worked for me and I know I will never ever want a ciggie again. I can happily sit surrounded by my partner, his son and all our friends smoking and I know I don't need or wnat them!!!

I can read the fear in what you post and I know you are absolutely terrified of stopping. If you can, write down and post what you think you will be giving up by stopping - ie what you think is GOOD about smoking - what you will miss. I honestly want to help you see how much happier you will be without them but it's difficult when I don't know what you are afraid of letting go of!!

Mumzyof2 I understand you completely as I am the same - I want to and I can't and I know about the first thing in the morning cigarette!! I have set myself a quit date 3 times in the past two weeks and everytime I have failed ... but I am going to. I spend around £13 a week on smoking although I smoke between 25-30 a day now - roll ups! I thought I was smoking up to 20 a day but on counting it is more

    Hey Tobruk, how about this....

Next quit date, have an early night the night before. Before you go to sleep write yourself a note that says 'Well Done. you've already done xx hours - keep going' and put it somewhere where you will see it as soon as you wake up. It may just give you the impetus you need to continue your quit.

mumsy and Tobruk, this might help too. The start of the quitting timeline - how long it takes for your body to start the healing process...

If you have a nice early night and manage 8 hours sleep, you're already at the end of the second stage. Wake up and think about that fact that you have normal blood pressure, normal pulse, normal oxygen and normal carbon monoxide levels. Right up until you light a fag....

Now, imagine if you just managed to stay strong and last a whole day. Within just 24 hours your chance of a heart attack decreases! A day later (which is where mumofcookers and Deakes are now) and your nerve endings start re-growing and your taste/smell improves.

I'm just heading towards my 4 week marker. I can feel my lung capacity improving and can walk faster already. Plus my skin is starting to look so much pinker!

It's an amazing and exciting journey and it starts as soon as you take a deep breath and give yourself a chance! :j
