Thanks Adzha - I am going cold turkey - I have managed twice before with each pregnancy but started again soon after giving birth.

Did you all tell everyone that you were giving up. Im a bit worried about colleagues asking me all the time how its going - I imagine it will be like being reminded about cigs.

None of my family (apart from OH) know I smoke and all my friends are none smokers too so that should make things easier. x x
Cold turkey was my method, at least your not getting nicotine when trying to get off it!

I told no-one I was quitting, except the people on here, something every on here knows is I'm 15, and while I hope my parents didn't know I smoked, they probably did! So, I kept my quit quiet apart from to a few mates. They were supportive but when I was grumpy, one said I prefered it when you smoked. Anyway, they are glad I quit now.

Having support from non-smokers will do you good :)

The beginnings of lots of thread got lost when the server crashed last week. :(

While the techie teem try to sort that out here is jo1972's original post:
 This is proper going public, can't go back now :undecided

So....I've decided to give up smoking tomorrow to help save money. I spend £5.60 smoking a day and I can't afford it.

So if any of you smoke and feel as though you might want to try giving up then post here and join me, more the merrier!!

Can't believe I'm doing this but...I pledge that I will not smoke tomorrow, will take every day as it comes, and will be completely honest with all of you.

So, I've worked out (if I'm right...) in a year I would save £2,090.40!!!!

So I gotta go for it...anyone wanna join me??

    EDIT:

Here are a few links to websites that you might find useful for info on various types of NRT, support groups etc. Plus a couple of books that you might find helpful. Thanks to Oops a daisy for compiling this list :T

And here is a list of reasons that make the posters on this thread happy that they've stopped smoking, I hope this gives everyone a bit of encouragement, whether you're still to stop or have stopped and waivering, or just stopped and want to remind yourself how great you are :D

Not having to ask non smoker friends if we can sit outside, when the weather really isn't good enough

Having nice smelling hair and clothes

Coming home to a nice smelling house

No more sore throat and burnt feeling tongue

No more 'smoking hangovers' where the night before you smoked a packet which makes you feel much worse than any amount of alcohol

Not worrying about whether you've got cash for cigs all the time

Not getting evil looks from passers by when you have a cig break on the pavement at work and the smoke goes near them

Smelling smoke from other people and thinking that actually it doesn't smell very nice and realising you might be able to actually give up

    Having a £2,000 a year tax-free pay rise :j

Being able to concentrate on what you're doing without thinking about going and having a cig when your finished, eg eating, cleaning, working!

People not backing off from smelly smokers breath

OH saying how much better the flat smells now

No nasty clearing your throat all the time

Taking deep breaths of clean air

    Being a bit richer

    Having a pink tongue!

Your lungs getting rid of gunk

    Clean fresh hair and clothes

Paintwork will stay whiter as will ceilings

    Lovely clean teeth

    More energy

    Ateries becoming un-clogged

    Longer life

Not having to go outside the pub for one

Laughing at those who do have to go outside for one

Moaning about all the butts they leave outside

Time for some personals, as I’ve been hiding the last few days :D

Elle – Well done on your quit. How was your date?

Bigears – Hope the quits going ok.

TNG – Well done for your whole quit, and well done to Mrs TNG :) Glad you’re still alive. Is she really that bad? I’ll be glad when I’m not going through a can of lynx a day covering up the cigarette smell.

SB – Well done, keep it up

Jo – Glad your enjoying your job. Wish I could have gone to the kids place. I bet you loved the slide :rotfl:

Mumzy – Good luck with your quit, hope you start tonight and succeed. I was born at the Vic, lived in Bispham, and moved to Thornton to start school. I still live there now.

JoHel – Hope you’ve got a few more days on your quit meter now.

IDA – Hope the scan goes ok

ILA – Sorry about your dad, well done for staying strong *big hug*

YM – Welcome, just remember a lot of people use new year’s resolutions not for keeping, it’s great you want a new smoke-free year, but only if you stick to it. If you remember why you gave up a 4 month quit, focus on that not happening again.

Jetrox – Hope to see you as a quitter soon :)

Penguin – Hope you do start your quit tonight, and good luck.

Gosh never knew we had so many regular posters in this thread!

Anyway, I’ve got an English Media Coursework (!!) to do, I’ll be watching this thread.
  • Hi everyone,

Thanks for the well wishes. I answer to most things but penguin is fine!

Well, the kids are in bed, ive got everything ready for tomorrow and had my bath. This is when I would normally have a cig. No smoking in the house so luckily its cold and wet outside and thats helping to stop me having one!

    Mumzy - Ive quit today too - good luck x x x x
