What worked for me was reading the Allen Carr book all weekend (plus the stuff on WhyQuit.com about giving up nicotine) then I had a smoke-a-thon and finished all the ciggies I had on Sunday night! So I knew I'd have none to wake up to on Monday morning and I could make use of the few hours I'd been without nicotine while asleep!! It takes 72 hours for the nicotine to leave your body completely (cranberry juice helps speed that up by the way!) Yes, you feel a bit up and down but it's really not that bad and less uncomfortable than having a mild cold! Then on day 4 you wake up CALM. It's indescribable how lovely it feels to know that the nicotine monster has died and you are FREE!!! I can't believe how amazing it feels already! :j

I have been quit for 1 Week, 4 Days, 11 minutes and 33 seconds (11 days). I have saved £80.13 by not smoking 308 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Day, 1 hour and 40 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 04/11/2007 23:00
    QUIT SMOKING 4/11/07 :j

Mumzy, don't beat yourself up about it. There is no way you will have a successful quit if you aren't completely ready. JoeHel has given you some excellent advice as this gives you time to prepare before actually quitting. The Allen Carr approach means that you smoke whilst reading the book and then have your last one at the end, but by the time you get to the end of the book you are unlikely to want to smoke anyway. Is there anyone you can quit with? I always find a little friendly competitiveness is a sure way to egg me on :D How have you quit in the past? Have you tried NRT, particularly patches, I found, are very useful. When using patches I always felt as if I just had a fag, I still wanted one from time to time but not half as bad with nothing. The patch gives your body a rest from the withdrawal symptoms whilst you sort the mental habitual bits out. Good luck mumzy, stick around on here and keep us updated, just cos it didn't work last time doesn't mean you have to be banished from the thread :D

Sorry, gone on a bit there, morning all :D I gotta go work now, hope you're all well and speak to you later.

    Adz, where are you??

  • Hi all
Great advice Joe, mumzy you WILL do it - when your time is right!
Hey Jo all good with me, scan in 4 days, boobs still ballooning, still feeling icky (occasionally) and still eating for England (although thats psychological me thinks!!)- so will be glad once had the scan so know where we stand. Haven't told the family yet, a couple of close friends know but thats all - not used to keeping secrets and feel soo guilty talking to my mum!!!
Well done Mrs TNG - you are such a nice man TNG, my dh never gives me anything - except babies :o !!
    ADZ WHERE YOU AT?????
    Happy smoke free days all.

Thanks IDA, that's really kind of you to say so :D

Got another weekend coming up, though  :o:o . If I don't post by lunchtime on Monday, I'm in little pieces.....

mumzy - don't worry. Read books! (about smoking, that is). The more you can understand about the nature of the addiction, the easier you will find it to stop. That goes for anything. Didn't someone say that once.... "Know your enemy".

And there's always us lot

    Enjoy your Friday, everyone. :j
