Hey Tobruk, how are you? I know how it feels to bottle it (hey I lurked on this thread FOREVER before finally doing it) but tomorrow is another day - why not just keep daring yourself, an hour at a time? I know what the logic is in quit dates and stuff like that but I found I smoked more in the lead up to it if I knew I 'had' to quit soon..

That is so true, it is exactly how I am whenever I think about quitting ... you just smoke more and more because you feel you will be deprived of it!
  • But then one day you just.....do! I dare you - see if you can make it through to Saturday without one. You can have one as a reward on Saturday if you do (but you might not want one then!) Start right this second now (then you won't have loads of farewell fags, ha ha!)

Thanks BE! Farewell fags are the worst ... I've been saying farewell for months!! It's funny when I decided to give up 4th August I was fine (with the patches) and went away with family, it was only when I got back here and being on my own I just started again! When I'm in company it doesn't bother me!

Rewarding with a fag after 2 days of nicotine withdrawal hell isn't a good idea imo.

:hello: Hi all!! Just caught up on all the posts from the 7th!! Its very busy in here now and its good that alot more peeps are coming in here either cos they have quit or in the midst!! You are all doing really well!! Joehel-You wrote exactly how I felt!! I did Allan Carr and to me he is an absolute saint and his book is THE ONLY WAY to stop smoking! Bought the weeney book aswell to keep in my handbag!! I still feel elated now!! It is now 7 and a half weeks and never in a million years I thought that I could do this and feel so wonderful!!
Predicament- going out Saturday and have a date with a guy! But the guy I am dating smokes!! I suppose I just take one step at a time! Anyway good luck to all and will post later!!:T
Sunday 23rd September 2007 I came to my senses and discovered fresh air!!:j
    :hello: ELLO! :hello:
  • Adz - totally agree. It's more of a psychological mind thing that worked for me - as in I wasn't scaring myself by thinking of forever, just taking it 2 days at a time. By the time I got to Monday, I'd got used to not smoking, so was able to substitute a Curly Wurly as my reward. But through the weekend I could promise myself that Monday fag when I wavered (which I did!)
I realise this won't work for everyone, was just sharing what (fingers crossed) has worked for me.

    Anyway...Good morning all!

    Hi everyone :hello:

Sorry I haven't been around much lately, but you all seem to be coping admirably  ;)

elle - I don't envy you re: Saturday. I guess you'll just have to decide whether you like him enough..... Hope it all goes well, anyway :)

jo - how's the job going?

Tobruk - don't pressure yourself. Once you've run out, say to yourself 'right, thats it then' and don't go and get anymore. The first thing that smokers do when they are under pressure or stress is to smoke, so you don't want to heap that on to yourself...

Hope eveyone else is ok (IDA, Adz, Steve, BigEars, errr and everyone else - sorry if I missed you out :o)

Off to Godiva for posh choccies for Mrs TNG - three weeks now (well in 35 minutes;)) :D:D :j another week and she might not want to kill me anymore :D
:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood
