Well done Steve :T :T :T :T
One thing I did on one attempt (on advice from a book), was to put some water in a jar and put a few cigarettes in. When I got a craving, I just opened the lid and took a whiff _pale_ _pale_ _pale_
Aversion therapy, I believe
mmmmmm must try that, just have to persuade wifey to quit her 5 or 6 a day now, but she is very supportive of me and stands outside and out of sight to have a wee smoke
Day 15 on Champix and Day 4 smoke free so far so good had a few bad niggles yesterday and a few wee anxiety attacks over the thought of never having a smoke again (I soooo enjoyed them) but keep telling myself its for the greater good;)
Onwards and Upwards everyone, we shall overcomethI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
Hi all
Well done Steve you're doing really well. hey Adz glad you decided to go ahead with the trip - I'm sure you won't regret it! Hey TNG how's Mrs TNG doing??
Hi Jo glad the job is going well! Its been really busy on here and so many new people, you ought to do a head count Jo and count how many people YOUR thread has helped/supported!
Well on the baby front had a surprising scan on Tuesday and I'm not 12 weeks actually very early - looks to be about 5 weeks. Saw the sac and embryo but no fetal pole or heartbeat yet still too early. Have another scan in 10 days to check for viability - I'm realistic enough (and old enough lol) to know if its meant to be it will - the fact that I'm on the pill and pregnant is miracle enough at this stage. We are simply taking each day as it comes - bit like the initial stages of quitting smoking really - lol!!! Feeling mega tired and waves of nausea (oh and boobs like melons) but nothing too unbearable! I'm not very good at the waiting game though (oh for a crystal ball)! I've experienced miscarriage in the past so I am prepared for the worst if it comes to it!
Anyway what was a brief "hello" is turning into an epic so will sign off. Take care all.
Happy smoke free days
IDA
xI stopped smoking 25th June 2007STILL Never complacent but confidentMy debt is GOING DOWN!!!!0 -
Hey IDA long time to see
TOBRUK you can't put it off forever.
Well done stevey0 -
Uh-Oh.
Well I'm going to be honest with you.
I've started again, through choice. I'm leaving my quit date until I feel ready.0 -
Oh Adz
Do you really want to be like the rest of us (well most of us), 20+ years down the line and still hooked, coughing all the time, tight chest, can't breathe if you have to run for more than 40ft, yellowing teeth (and tongue!), every part of your body being choked with poisons, skint, always having to go out in the cold to have a fag while all your non-smoking mates stay in in the warm and take the pi$$ out of you....and this is without even mentioning lung, throat, mouth etc etc cancer.....erm...shall I go on?
How's everyone else? This week has flown by, look forward to getting on MSE tomorrow and catching up with all the threads!

Adz, the sooner you twig that it is NOT through choice, the sooner you will be able to face up to it and quit.
What makes you different from every other smoker? How come they are all addicted (and they are), yet you're not?Adz wrote:I'm leaving my quit date until I feel ready.

That's what I said when I was 15 Adz. Guess what. It took 25 years! jo, IDA, Tobruk will probably all say the same. And the same will happen to you too. Don't say it won't.jo wrote:Do you really want to be like the rest of us (well most of us), 20+ years down the line and still hooked, coughing all the time, tight chest, can't breathe if you have to run for more than 40ft, yellowing teeth (and tongue!), every part of your body being choked with poisons, skint, always having to go out in the cold to have a fag while all your non-smoking mates stay in in the warm and take the pi$$ out of you....and this is without even mentioning lung, throat, mouth etc etc cancer.....erm...shall I go on?

I was THAT close to having a complete rant..........:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Well done to everyone who has quit.
I've been smoke free for 2 weeks and 3 days nowWas debt free... then went travelling!0 -
Hello, I'm back! How is everyone? I thought cos I was so new that no-one would have noticed me disappear (sent away to the woolly wilds for 2 days on a course with work) but felt really nice to come back and see people saying hi to me (me! I'm new and everything!) Can you tell I'm not used to this whole interweb talking thing?! So anyway thank you for making me feel welcome
However it also makes me feel worse now that I have to tell you that I slipped up :doh:After all the good stuff I'd been told :wall:
Got v v drunk (6 pints on a school night and I'm a GIRL) and had 4 fags with 2 others from work who had also quit recently. BUT it made me realise why I had quit and in a way has made me more determined. So it's been 48 hours since the dirty deed and I haven't repeated it. Almost did last night then realised I didn't want it or need it (and that there was chocolate ice cream in the freezer - a far better option!:rotfl: )
So, feeling very stupid but also very positive. And determined not to let you guys down again.

Adz,
I don't think anyone smokes by choice.
I didn't start smoking at school, I started at college, total change of self image/friends/lifestyle.from Geek to rebel in one Summer. I wish, wish, wish there was a back button for this one.
I would never have touched them if I honestly thought 23 years and over £30,000 later I'd still be doing it.The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones. - Chinese Proverb

Adz, just want to echo what the others are saying. I started at 21 (WHY? WHY?!) and kept telling myself as long as I quit before 30 it would be fine. That I wasn't addicted, I just enjoyed it. That it made me feel less hungry when dieting. All silly, silly lies and I wasn't even fooling myself, let alone anyone else.
It's really tough to stick with it and I've slipped up too but don't go right back to your old ways. Think how good you felt when you thought you had beaten it!
I've got my fingers crossed for you mate
