Failed my driving test .... Again

I once used to know somebody who passed on what she said was her 9th attempt, but we thought was probably about her 12th as she'd had some mysterious 'last minute test cancellations' which were probably covering up other failures. She even crashed on one test. Poor woman, she'd spent so much over the years she said she'd just got to carry on until she passed.
Somebody I was at school with had several tests then decided driving wasn't for her. In my opinion it's really limited her choices in life about where she's been able to work. She used to get a lift to work a few miles away, now is limited to places she can walk to.Make £2025 in 2025

I passed first time, but that was 38 years ago on my 17th birthday( I learnt off road first)!!!
Both my daughters failed first time. I knew they were both good enough(I didn't get involved in teaching them [grin], so said I would pay for their lessons until they passed. Luckily enough they passed quite quickly, but that was after changing their instructor to one who was more interested in them passing, than them paying for more lessons.0 -
Fourth time for me, first two were manoeuvre related, third was going round a corner too fast. TBH im glad I failed the first two as I dont think I would have been ready.
After my third fail I was sick of paying the driving instructor as it got to the point where I was just practicing driving round rather than being instructed. So I got insured on my mums car, drove round with my dad for free, took the test in my mums car and passed!0 -
Definitely rebook, don't give yourself a break. I passed second time, 5 months after my 17th birthday after 33 hours of lessons. Would have been a lot less but I kept taking lessons while I was waiting for my second test and the waiting list was long at the time.
The first time I had 2 major errors. One was absolutely my fault, I saw a lorry up ahead on a 60 mph road and was so nervous I didn't realise it was stopped and not moving until it was too late so I had to pass in too high a gear. Instructor also claimed I pulled out in front of a car when pulling away from the side of the road but to this day I claim nonsense, the guy didn't have to slow down, he was miles back.
My second test I had three minor errors, but the examiner didn't notice them all when totting up so officially I had 2This was after the panic in the morning of my instructor telling me that it was a visiting examiner from Falkirk so he'd use an old test route that wasn't sanctioned anymore, and having to spend my last lesson going over it! Didn't have any traffic lights and wasn't asked to do an emergency stop, country bumpkin driving tests are the best!
Contrast this to my OHs experience, he has done 2 theory tests and has had something like 5 instructors; his provisional licence expires in August and he still hasn't tried his test. He has no interest in driving- knows it'll make life easier for him in the future but can't summon up the motivation to just DO IT, yet it's been hundreds of pounds spent so far...0 -
I had lessons twenty years ago and hated it. It was with BSM and the instructor was horrible and more interested in selling his Amway products than teaching me to drive. I get really anxious and him shouting at me all the time didn't help. I didn't even get as far as sitting my test he bullied and upset me so much that I just gave up. I was only in my early twenties at the time . I really need to go back and learn to do it now though at the ripe old age of nearly 45 as OH is no longer really well enough to drive and my parents live 2 bus journeys and a train ride away and it takes nearly 3 hours to reach them by public transport. Thing is I"m scared of jumping back on the horse as it were and have no idea where to start in looking for lessons/booking lessons/learning the theory booking tests etc. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice they can give me? Sorry for hijacking your thread OP.loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!:eek:0

Hi all,
Thanks for all your wonderful support and replies.
I have now booked my test again on April 9th as I can do more practice during the easter term break.
Now contemplating whether to change my instructor or not.
I have a female instructor who stays just 10 houses away always on time and never cancelled any sessions I feel really comfortable with her. Do you think changing the instructor will it be good or more confusing because of different approach by different instructorsNSD challenge (Dec 2011) 12/10 :j

Well done for re-booking. My brother passed third time. First for being too cautious at roundabouts and the second for not being cautious enough so make sure you don't try to overcompensate next time.
I passed first time at the age of 30. I'd told everyone before hand that I'd probably fail and felt no pressure to pass the test. The examiner was lovely and chatty and i just felt like i was on a lesson. I only got two minor faults and it's probably the best I've ever driven up to then.0 -
