I failed about 6 times I think, and stopped trying after that 6th attempt.
I'm clearly not cut out for it, lol.
For all I know, I could fail another 200 times, and between lessons and test fees etc, that's A LOT of money!
  • I was fourth time lucky!

It was the worst time though learning and failing etc...glad it's all over and i have my pink licence which can't be taken away from me now.

  • I passed on my fourth test. I started learning when I was 17, had loads of lessons then had 3 tests and failed them all... after my third one I decided to take a break while I was at uni as I didn't have a car anyway and to be honest, I felt as though I was only learning to drive because it was expected, and family were pushing me to keep trying.

Everyone thought I would never get back to it but 4 years later, after uni I got myself a new (female) instructor. I had a few lessons with her and did lots of driving in my boyfriend's car, booked in for my test and passed (fourth time but felt like first time after my long break!). I felt like I was doing it for me that time around, like I really wanted to be able to drive and during my test I felt that I could manage my nerves and anxiety better.

I guess ultimately it depends on what you want to do and whether you feel like you really will want to get back to it in the Summer. I KNEW I would try again so felt comfortable taking a step back from it... it would have been awful to have all those lessons and get so close then give up completely. Good luck with whatever you choose, make the best decision for you, don't base it on other people's opinions.

I passed at 7th attempt over 32 years ago (age 20). Each of the first 6 times I was going hot and cold, shaky and nauseous with a racing pulse and strange "out of body" feeling - I guess what's now called a panic attack. Finally passed in a strange city with raging tonsilitis as I felt so ill I didn't give a sh*t about the test, and just wanted to get home and back into bed!

2 failures is nothing OP, just a bit of an inconvenience. And yes, the costs add up, but it's got to be done if you want a driving licence....keep on going, you'll get there in the end!:)
  • I failed 1.5 times. First time - going too fast. 2nd test was abandoned as I ran down a child who jumped n front of the car (she was OK before anyone asks) - abandoned as I got out car as I knw 1st Aid & obviously had someone to check....
3rd time was 8 days later & I passed and I would like it noted I have not run anyone else since then:o

I passed first time, 3 faults, but I don't think for a second that I was a good driver when I passed! In some ways you only start to learn once you're in the car on your own and actually doing it. I only consider myself a good driver now because I did an advanced motoring course.

My boyfriend when I was 17 passed first time too but with the maximum number of faults you're allowed, I think its 14 or 15? Its one of the most nerve wracking and high pressure tests there is, so lots and lots of people fail it several times but go on to be perfectly safe and competent drivers.
  • All the best drivers pass 3rd time, get it done again as soon as possible.

I sit my 1st driving test on the 14th of March - I am bricking it. I still make mistakes, I go too slow on the back roads (they are really bad in Aberdeen, pot holes, overgrown bushes everywhere) I used to dread the roundabouts but I think I approach them too fast....

Just book it straight away again, that's what Im gonna do....and also not tell anyone so when I pass on my 11th time I'll pretend its my 1st :p (i did get 50/50 on the theory tho!) :)

I passed 4th time. My tips would be; don't go over the speed limit, and don't park up on double yellow lines at the end. Not that I managed to do both of those in one test.

I actually stalled my car in one test but was so calm and undeterred (had had a tooth out the day before so no time to build up nerves) that I passed.
  • I passed ninth time:beer: - get back and book it ASAP - you were obviously close to passing. Good luck for next time. It'll come with practice!
