Failed my driving test .... Again

I passed first time, but the only reason I passed was that when we were pulling out of the test centre car park, an old lady walked in front of me with two dogs, and let them stop and sniff at the wheels of the car, I panicked and stalled, and waited ages until she'd cleared off with her mutts. In a bit of a panic, we drove round the corner and the examiner asked me to pull into the side of the road, at which point I clipped the curb. I decided that was it, and I'd failed, and relaxed completley, as there was no pressure. Got back to the test centre, after a flawless drive, and the examiner asked me how I thought I'd done, I told him that I'd failed right at the beginning, but the rest of the test was fab, so I'd make sure next time I didn't clip the curb, and he told me that clipping the curb was a minor steering error (and not the major error I'd been led to believe it was), and I'd passed with 2 minors!
My instructor came over to see how I'd done, and I told him that I thought the examiners little joke wasn't very funny, and I was going to refuse to have him next time, it took my instructor and the examiner to convince me I'd passed - not my finest moment I must admit!
I'd advise getting another test booked, and as much practise as possible beforehand, see if you can talk a friend or relative into sitting next to you - tell them you don't need to be taught, just practise, and get round those roundabouts as much as possible until you are confident.0 -
I passed 1st time 32 years ago when we had 3 questions at the end as the theory part.
I'd pass the theory test if I took it now but only because I have helped my kids to learn it. I'm not sure if I would pass the practical now.
My eldest passed 3rd time after 18 months, he wasn't really bothered about driving and only learned because his dad kept nagging him.
Son no 2 passed within 8 weeks of his 17th birthday and my daughter passed 1st time too.
Everyone is different, just keep trying.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
I passed on the 4th attempt......... this was over 6 years.
So, book your next test ASAP, you'll get there.....good luck!0 -
I passed on my second attempt on Friday 13th October 1989 (wonder how I remember that date!!!!) - friend had a test on the same day and changed to a different day as she was convinced she'd fail (she passed too!). OH passed on 3rd attempt.0

I took 3 attempts and seven months of lessons - one a week, and a practise drive with Mum once a week too.
First one wasn't my fault - I had 2 minors up to the last 3 minutes of my test when what I had been led to believe was a priority road was actually an unmarked crossroad.
Second one was the worst experience I've ever had. The examiner threw the report on my lap and said "you don't need me to tell you you failed" and got out of the car. I burst into tears and my instructor nearly laid out the examiner haha! He made me feel so uncomfortable, and it turned out he was under inspection for poor treatment of candidates!! I cried for hours and had to be persuaded to retake.
Third one was fine - chap was very nice and friendly, asked me nicely to do manoevres and take turnings rather than ordering me, and said I was one of the best candidates he'd had for ages
Give it another go - you can do it!!

I would book it again asap. I was in a similar situation, failed twice, was a bit short on money and thought would give myself a few months break before going again. Ended up being more short of money and it's now several years, have never taken it again and now I would need to basically start from scratch again which is going to cost me an absolute fortune. I really regret not just getting it over with at the time.0

First test was a night-mare, I was nervous and examiner was a real piece of work. Passed second time with a few faults. I didn't drive for ages after passing as couldn't afford a car, but now I drive all the time, up here and also down to Glasgow and the like. I think in a rural location you need it more too.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Chin up. DH passed on his 9th attempt. Clearly he was pushed to do most of these tests before he was ready.0

I passed 1st time, 7 minors after 11 weeks of lessons, I had two hour long lessons which made a difference. This was going back to learning at the age of 30 after giving up when nearly reaching test standard at 18 (due to a horrible creepy instructor and then lack of money for and need of a car). I was convinced i'd failed and cried all the way home, lol, mind you I still miss my second instructor, he was great.
I agree with everyone else, get your test booked again asap, then just think of how much you will be able to build your confidence up over your summer break, you will be able to go all sorts of places. I had to be pushed into learning to drive again, it seemed such a scary thing but it has completely changed my life.
Good luck, i'm sure 3rd time will be the charm! x0 -
Book it ASAP. Its just like anything, practic makes perfect. So keep at it, get straight back in the car and do your test again.0
