I think they will be next if honest.

    Then owner-occupiers.

@princessdon. It varies a lot under that, dependent on their needs that week. Hospital trips etc are not all the time dependent on their condition. My brother in law who is 43 lives with my mother in law who is 74. He is wheelchair bound and suffers with Myatonic distrophe. He has a care package a few hours a day but the mother in law at 74 cant cope on her own as he is a 15 stone man who cant even stand up on his own. Not to get back onto it but its this what annoys me when people who dont even know me call me lazy. I may only work part time at the minute but i still am out between parents and my brother in laws at all hours too.
I have tried for carers allowance but heard nothing back as yet, not really sure how that works all what i would have to do

Ok - you clearly see where I was going and it's looked into. You would need to do 35 hrs per week for 1 person. It can also affect benefits of others so lots of considerations.

@ sulkisu. So i just let people tell me im lazy, watch sky tv and even tell me what newspaper I read even though this is not true on every point! That's very helpful indeed!!

I wasn't talking about that. You asked for advice about your situation and then went into several rants about immigration - that is where I said you introduced 'politcal crap' into the conversation. It is totally unecessary when asking for advice.
  • @GENTILE. I understand the benefit system as for the last 20 years i have been one who are funding those on benefits. I never thought i would find myself in this position but I have and i am doing the best i can to get out of it, not sitting at home taking benefits as you suggest!

Also I never chose to have a 3 bedroomed house so why is this my fault?

Then millionaires too. How dare they have more money than others ? After that mansions, anybody having a mansion should be told to give it up to the council who can then give it a family who needs it !

hang on hang on, this is only for those claiming HB?! crazy, i agree it needs to happen, but what about my sister in law who lives (on her own) in a 3 bed detached house in surrey and pays £400 rent to the council? i assume she is ok to keep on living there with 2 spare rooms?

    mental.

Yes, plan is to not issue assured and secure tenancies to new tenants, instead they will have 5 year tenancies. Then they will not renew tenancies when circumstances change.

Being honest - did you ever say to the council. I don't need 3 bedrooms, as soon as a 2 bed is available anywhere let me know and I'll move. Or just take the extra and think great! If you were in private rental or owner occupiers you'd have considered moving with lower incomes. It's an anomaly that SH tenants have been exempt.

Thing is, when they have to pay for the rent out of their own pocket they will go for the number of bedrooms that they require. When the State is providing a free house they want the biggest possible.

I hope that all social housing is limited to 2 bedroom only. If you dont like it then you can go and find a house yourself.

Would never take on a lodger. I would not want a lodger in our house with my kids anyway!. Plus i thought it was illegal to sub let a council property?
Also would the lodger sleep somewhere else on the days i have my kids as there wont be enough beds when i have them!.
Increase your income, easier said then done. We are both part time. The place i worked last year burnt down so made redundant but my boss still give me some hours on clerical work part time. We have both been looking for full time work for the last year but as yo are aware sometimes it works out that your are taking home less money even though you are working more as they stop other benefits. I dont want to sponge off the government but am i hell going to work longer hours just to have less money going in my bank each week then in turn start struggling with other bills like gas and electric and end up on the other forums on here in the Im in debt section!.
We have been living here 10 years and the school is nearby for our oldest. There is no smaller properties in this area, and like I say why on earth did they put my then single wife in a 3 bed house anyway??

this is just a load of rubbish to cut your benefits, thats all it is. If they shut the door on all the immigrants coming it taking all the houses we would not be in this state and next month we are welcoming more in to the country!!!. Its insane. when are we going to get a government who actually lives in the real world!!!

Taking a lodger isn't the same as subletting a property.

Your other option, of course, is to buy your own property rather than relying on social housing.

Oh, and focus on the one issue please. Immigration has nothing to do with this issue; it's entirely down to the reduction in social housing which has been going on since the 80s.

And at least, while you HAVE been working part time the Government
has stepped in to keep you homed etc. For the brief period I was unemployed all I got was my JSA. No help with my mortgage, bills, CT etc - why? because I was in a mortgaged property! Apart from free school meals for the kids, that was IT!

    And do you vote?

I wouldn't go that far. Some genuine cases need 3 bedrooms but .. Have you seen the link I posted on the 6 bed build me a home as 2 houses merged isn't good enough on the other thread? It has to stop somewhere.
