@Mara69. I invite you to where I live and visit the job centre 4 times a week like i do and find us both full time jobs. I would be quite happy to take them.
Everyones postion is different in every part of the Country, health issues, personal issues. You cant tar everyone with the same brush.

I have worked FULL time since 16 and never been out of work until now so dont make out as though we are not trying. Your comments are not very helpful!!

But you are missing out on WTC etc for a small mount of hours and at the same time saying work is there you just would lose some benefits. It sounds like a good time to review all options, especially with UC arriving as you both need to work more hours.

Yes, I think some of the comments you have received have been harsh but you are doing yourself no favours by saying things like:

    QUOTE

I never expected the business i worked at to burn down overnight but I am trying my best to get more work but unless its of a certain amount it really is not worth taking as we would bring in less money with all the benefits that would get stopped.

This reads as if you are not prepared to work more hours unless there is a big enough difference to make a difference.

This is not the point of benefits. They are there to support those in need, not to give you a choice as to whether you work or not.

Many see this as the big problems with benefits. Because they have been 'generous', going back to work or increasing hours just, in their mind, doesn't seem worth it.

I'm really not having a go at you OP. If you are offered any job with more hours I would be extremely surprised if you were not better off, even if it's only by a small amount. You need to do your 'homework' with the benefit calculator.

hang on hang on, this is only for those claiming HB?! crazy, i agree it needs to happen, but what about my sister in law who lives (on her own) in a 3 bed detached house in surrey and pays £400 rent to the council? i assume she is ok to keep on living there with 2 spare rooms?

    mental.
  • @pmlindyloo. I appreciate your comments and I agree with your comments. Maybe I said it wrong. Its obvious I want to work full time and not be on benefits but I worry with good reason as I know people if the same situation about taking any cut in income. I could manage but having a family I dont want to start to get into debt with other bills. I know its the wrong thing to stay on benefits but this is like a safety net till I find something that does not decrease my income. Maybe people who have not been in this situation fully understand that just £5 pound makes a big difference in some cases.
I wont go into it but i pay for my kids on a private basis between me and my ex always have done. I also travel for them which is a 150 mile round trip there and 150 mile round trip back. thats 600 mile every 2 weeks. As you can see my outgoings are high just in travelling so a cut in income just makes things harder and the last thing I want to do is not be able to see my kids.
For 20 years I have worked full time and I love every minute and it upsets me how people can be so harsh about your life knowing nothing about you. I wish i could have Sky Tv the kids would love it but as i know its not a neccessity!.
I am also a look after my elderly parents weekly and my disabled brother in law. I work voluntary for a local Youth Club also.
It annoys me to be called lazy in any way and those comments just dont help at all.
All i wanted was an idea if the Council will be charging extra for the spare room and if so approx how much would it be. Thats all I needed to know but I have been judged by people who know nothing about me!

Not a great forum for advice that I can see.

Do you care for any one of them (not all added up) over 35 hours a week each week or does it vary or under that?

Yes, that is correct, only those under-occupying and claiming housing benefit will be affected. The policy does nothing to alleviate the very small problem of under-occupancy in the social housing sector, where the majority of under-occupiers have only one spare room.

Yes, she can continue living in her three-bedroom council house without penalty.
  • @princessdon. It varies a lot under that, dependent on their needs that week. Hospital trips etc are not all the time dependent on their condition. My brother in law who is 43 lives with my mother in law who is 74. He is wheelchair bound and suffers with Myatonic distrophe. He has a care package a few hours a day but the mother in law at 74 cant cope on her own as he is a 15 stone man who cant even stand up on his own. Not to get back onto it but its this what annoys me when people who dont even know me call me lazy. I may only work part time at the minute but i still am out between parents and my brother in laws at all hours too.
I have tried for carers allowance but heard nothing back as yet, not really sure how that works all what i would have to do

You make it sound like only a handful of people in this country work 'FULL' time. It isnt really an achievement is it ? Unless you are loaded everybody has to go and work full time. That is the way it is. You are talking about the "bedroom tax" ( which isnt a tax lets get that right ) causing you financial difficulties, the same goes for all of us who work and pay the taxes which provides for your benefits. When more and more people prefer to sit at home doing only part time work and then claim massive amounts in tax credits the government has to find the extra cash and this means taxing us more and more.

Why should we pay for you to have an extra bedroom ?? Millions of tax payers are living in small houses because they cannot afford a bigger house not do they get any help from the State.
