Will The Bedroom Tax Affect Me?

If you pay for something out of your own money you can do as you like, whether you're an owner occupier, in the private rental sector or in social housing.
Okay, so lets say everyone in social housing worked and all paid full rent. Isn't there still a national housing shortage. They are saying they are doing it to save money, yet if people move into private rental, it will cost more.
Personally, this doesn't affect me, but I'm not prepared to sit back and watch people starve or become homeless, and will stick up for their human rights.
But there for the grace of God and all that.0 -

My fault, I read the post wrong and didn't realise he/she was talking about homeowners.0 -
Are owner-occupiers greedy as well? If there is a national housing crisis and nearly 90% of owner-occupied properties are under-occupied, shouldn't they take some responsibility too and downsize or be penalised?
A lot of house owners do downsize when their chidren leave home or when they retire and are on a fixed income. Smaller house means smaller bills.RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

That's the next group. You earn get out and buy/rent. It's because everyone who rents wants SH they are like gold, a commodity but rare due to rtb schemes.
Would you like to pay £400 pm for a 4 bed detached?0 -

That is not taking any responsibility in a housing crisis, ie not enough space available for the number of people who require a home. And given that under-occupancy in the private sector is nearly 90%, hogging all of the housing space that is required by others. The fact that you pay for it is irrelevant.0 -

That doesn't alter the fact that owner-occupiers massively under-occupy, more so than any other housing sector.0 -

The fact you pay IS relevant. But I'd agree with SMI being rooms taxed for homeowners. It seems unfair that any particular benefit group is allowed over occupancy.0
