Flight delay compensation, all other EU airlines

€55 for refreshments! - depending on the reason for delay you should get the €250 each but I suspect you are likely to have a fight to prove that the refreshments were applicable for the length of the delay - I suspect if an airline was issuing vouchers for a delay on a short flight they would likely be for around €5 each0

:mad:In October we travelled to Katowice with Wizz Air, our flight was 4 1/2 hrs late departing and approx 4 hrs late arriving.
I submitted a claim for compensation using the template letter and recieved the following responseThank you for contacting Customer Relations Department.
We would like to firstly take this opportunity to express our deepest apologies for all the inconveniences encountered during the delay of our flight W6 1002 on the 22nd of October, 2013.
In accordance with our General Conditions of Carriage and the operative EU regulations, in case of more than 2 hour delays, Wizz Air shall reimburse passenger's extra costs such as meals, refreshments and two brief telephone costs in reasonable relation to the waiting time upon reception of supplementing invoices.
As for the additional expenses listed above, we kindly ask you to forward invoices as an attachment to your reply so that we can determine a possible compensation.
We look forward to hearing from you.
I am bit confused by their reply as they don't mention the compensation anywhere in their email and we didn't incurr any additional costs. (it just really screwed up our holiday!)
Can anyone suggest how to reply?0 -
snowflake86 - Wizz are just trying to cloud the issue. You had a delay over 3 hours and assuming there was a technical problem with the plane you are entitled to compensation. If you want to have one more try then quote 261/2004 and Huzar but then I suspect you (or appointed firm) will be pursuing court action.0

I hope someone can give me some advice for my situation as I have had a very long day and am now quite confused about where I stand. I was due to fly today from Dublin to Berlin with Aer Lingus at 1815 my flight was at first delayed until 1930 then cancelled. We were not given a reason for the cancellation and given very little information by the airline representative and only told to reschedule our flights or cancel the flight online. This proved at the time to be impossible as the airlines website was running so slow due to the number of people trying to rebook.
We were told by the representative that tomorrow and Sunday's flights were full to Berlin and he would not help any further except to say we could not have a hotel room booked for us either and that customer service was closing at 8pm so we have to do everything through their rubbish website.
I have had to book a flight with another airline as I must get to Berlin by tomorrow. I am still unable to do anything with the Aer Lingus booking so should I cancel it and use the alternative flight and would that mean I am entitled to no compensation towards the alternative flight or hotel cost?0 -
Were any other flights cancelled, I seem to recall Friday was particularly windy and if it was weather related, their obligations are simply to look after you and offer you another flight or refund, there may be no right to compensation as such. You should write and claim the cost of your overnight hotel, not sure they will pay the extra for the alternative flight but its worth a try0

There were a lot of other flights cancelled in the morning and early afternoon, our flight was due to leave at 18.15 and then delayed until 19.50. By that stage the only airline cancelling flights was Aer Lingus and the weather was fine. I can only assume that our plane was not in the correct place or there was a fault with it as there were other flights going to other parts of Germany from Dublin.
I have put in a claim for the hotel and the new flights although I am not very hopeful that Aer Lingus will pay anything as their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.0 -
Hi, First timer on a forum please help.
So... I did the template letter (thank you MSE for that) asking for compensation to SAS they have cited the following,
'EU Regulations 261/2004 any technical defect which become apparent prior to departure (where the part has been maintained in accordance with the required maintenance programme) is considered an unexpected flight safety shortcoming, and in these circumstances financial compensation is not payable, in accordance to the Regulations'.
This is in response to a delay of over 8 hrs entailing 1 further overnight stay in Iceland. How can we possibly check that? They offer SAS vouchers of €300 as gesture of goodwill for 2 people. Planning on writing to the Icelandic Transport authority next, any advice gratefully received.0 -
The Regulations say no such thing. Have you read the FAQs on this forum? They're very helpful, and they will tell you what to do next.0

Hi all, I searched the forum for Wizz Air stories however I couldn't find anyone who was able to successfully claim for long delays for Wizz Air. My plane from TGM to LTN (1800+ km) landed with an almost 5-hr delay on Luton Airport (scheduled to arrive at 7:45am and actually arrived at 12:31pm). The airline gave me a €10 voucher for food and drinks prior to departure, and that was all.
I was supposed to go straight to work that morning but obviously I missed a full work day, as we also had to wait more than one hour for luggage when we landed. The reason for the delay was technical difficulties, I believe they had to send another plane or something like that.
I was unaware that I could claim for long delays until I read the MSE article... so I've just completed a claim using their online system, to which I received an automated response. Now, the T&Cs on the Wizz Air site suggest that I am not entitled to compensation, just 'right of care', but the MSE article says that for 3+ hr delays (at arrival) it would be treated in the same way as a cancelled flight is treated and that I would be entitled to €400. Is that correct? Am I missing something?
Is anyone on here who was able to obtain compensation from Wizz Air? Thank you!0 -
I spent 30 seconds searching and found this: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=63852946&postcount=94
There may well be more.0
