Flight delay compensation, all other non-EU airlines

Thanks JPears. So the outward portion of my return ticket was non EU airline from EU airport so could claim (but no delay here ). My return leg on the ticket is no. EU airline from non EU airport so I could not claim if delayed. Except if it is considered that the !!!8220;flight!!!8221; is both portions of a return ticket and that is NOT clearly defined by case law.
Since my flight originated in U.K. from ticket purchased inUK I would argue it should depend on the origin airport on the ticket as that is where the contract was !!!8220;ageed!!!8221; and if Etihad want to sell tickets from EU they should comply with EU requirements. But I guess it could also be argu d that if you want EU protection use an EU airline! I!!!8217;ll look in to the case you mention. Thanks again0 -

It's pretty clear given the definition of final destination. Treating both the outbound and inbound part of a ticket as being one trip would also have some odd consequences. E.g. delays would only be relevant on the return home.0 -
Yes, I think mrkjd you have misinterpreted to a small . The outbound and inbound journeys are entirely separate (for regulation purposes).
What we are talking about are the combined legs of a journey from point A to point B, not point A to point A, via point B.
So yes if you want better cover, return from ME on an EU airline....If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

Thanks guys - understood. Since I fly these routes often for business now it is worth my considering an EU airline over the gulf carriers perhaps0

Emirates out, EU airline back, depends on price/service/convenience etcIf you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide

also how many times have you been delayed more than 3 hours coming back to the UK. Also, you could book an EU carrier coming back but could end up on a non-EU carrier, Happens quite regular from the USA.0

Hi,
So in June this year, I travelled from Manchester UK to Colombo, Sri Lanka with Qatar Airways.
There was one stop in Doha, Qatar.
The first flight (MAN -> DOH) was fine with no delays.
But the second flight (DOH -> CMB) was delayed by nearly 4 hours by arrival time.
Would I be able to claim compensation for this? Because I set off from an EU airport and the booking was under one ticket?? Not really sure what happens in this situation.
Thank you very much0 -

Good luck. Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
Thanks both.
Our actual losses were minimal, (two meals for five).
If I made a small claim it would be for compensation equivalent to the EU sums on the basis that if EU airlines have to pay it, why shouldn't non EU airlines who are selling tickets to EU citizens and taking their money?
I'd feel less strongly about this if our treatment by Emirates hadn't been so poor. No explanation, no apology, emails ignored, (until I phoned).
We did make a travel insurance claim and received a small amount, (which I intended to deduct from the small claims court claim).
I'm not keen to spend further money and effort on this for the sake of the price of a few meals.
It sounds as though you both keep an eye on these forums and if others, like me, had found the small claims process worthwhile I suspect you would know about it.
It looks like the best we can do is steer clear of this shower in future.
Appreciate your time.0 -
Just looking a bit of advice ,
Our Emirates flight from Denpasar ( Bali ) to Dubai was Changed which lead to us missing our Connection flight to Dublin . We had to wait 8 hours for the next flight from Dubai to Dublin . Please advise if we would be due any compensation .
Kind Regards
