This is to illustrate that Manchester Airport was closed due to snow on the morning of 30th January. One runway opened at 11.am and our inbound flight EK017 from DXB to MAN landed at 11.43 hours. "
Looks like a 'copy and paste' mistake that has included an internal memo.
Seems innocent imo:)Please read Vaubans superb guide. To find it Google and then download 'vaubans guide'.0 -
Hi,
Best way to go about refusing airmiles and getting actual compensation?
We recently had a 24hr delay from japan to uk (via dubai) that was really badly handled by Emirates. They basically just left us in Japan overnight with no hotel no info and no help.
The situation was complicated by poor information and they have admitted the problem and offered us full hotel costs (£218) and 60,000 air miles for both of us.
I do not intend to travel much in the next few years and air miles frankly look like a poor choice. Can you advise on the best way to approach refusal of air miles and what are my options should I do so?
Thanks

Unfortunately, Emirates are a non-European airline flying from outside of the European Union matters not that they flew into a European airport, so no compensation is due. You got your Hotel refunded, see what your insurance says.0

Your miles can also be used on hotels through Rocketmiles, for flights with easyJet or transferred to Heathrow Rewards. I don't think the easyJet flights have to be for yourself.
Emirates Skywards Miles normally don't expire for over three years (not sure if compensation miles are the same).0 -
Looks like I am at their mercy. Seems they have it all their own way. Thanks for the replies though.0

there are no regulations that mean they have to pay you anything. The airmiles will be a take it or leave it goodwill gesture...may as well take them.
You will find this very common outside Europe for there to be no entitlement to delay compensation.
Have you checked if your travel insurance covers anything for delays...some pay out a token payment such as £20 for each 12 hour delay...your policy may vary.0 -
I will take the air miles then. At least they paid for the hotel in full. Thanks all I appreciate the advice

Justice you have been a huge help up to now. Could I just check one further thing with you before I send the letter before action to American Airlines? I do live in Ireland, as well as the delayed flight having departed from Dublin, so I believe you are correct in stating that I should take action via ESCP. I just wondered if I should send my letter before action to the UK headquarters of American Airlines as you stated? Should I try to find an office in Ireland to send it to? I have previously corresponded with them via their online/ email facility which is linked to their headquarters in the US.
Many thanks again for any advice you can provide.Mortgage November 2016- €202,000

Lucky for you this has just been decided in the Court of Justice of the European Union.
This now covers the delay in a non EU Country as well.
This is the link you can send this to them an ask them to reconsider.

Justice,
further to your previous advice and having had my initial claim brushed off by American Airlines, I submitted a Notice Before Action letter, with all of the details of my claim.
I am based in Ireland and the flight was from Ireland to the US. I sent the Notice Before Action letter to the UK office of American Airlines. As far as I can tell, although American Airlines fly out of Dublin, they no longer have offices in Ireland.
I am now going to pursue action via the ESCP. My query is, which contact details/ base do I provide for American Airlines? Do I use the UK office as their contact address or their actual US base? I am just unclear as they are not a European airline and while their nearest office is in the UK, I did not fly out of there and am not based there...
Any further advice would be really appreciated! And many thanks again.Mortgage November 2016- €202,000
