Ah - just the man :)

Should I change it over myself do you think? I've done it before when I was a kid.. :undecided

Halford want £7.99 to change it and £5 for a tube..

It better work out better next time  Actually, I was really getting into it :) Never thought I would manage it, but as time was going on it became really fun, especially the downhill bits and kerb jumping

ABSOLUTELY do it yourself...paying someone £8 to do this is beyond a joke...

It's a "life skill" too - and like I said before, if you end up 10 miles from anywhere, knowing that halfords can fix it when you get back isn't a lot of good for you...

    The plan:

    1) Go to halfords (probably quite cheap) and buy a new inner tube...make sure you get the right size and valve type.
Also buy a puncture repair kit. (should only be a couple of quid).
Finally, if you think you need them, think about getting some tyre levers (can probably make do with spoons etc if you want)

    2) Let's change the inner tube:
The thing's deflated anyway, so that saves you a job...

Firstly, you need to get one half of the tyre over the side of the rim. To do this, slide a tyre lever (or spoon etc) in between the rim and the tyre. Then pull back on the lever and wiggle it until you feel it's under the bottom of the tyre...then continue to pull back until the lever's completely upside down.

Hold that one in place with your weaker hand, while you repeat this with another lever a couple of inches along the rim. Then wiggle the levers outwards and you should soon see a bit of the tyre clearly outside the rim. Get your fingers under here and continue to work outwards - until the tyre's over the rim the whole way round.

You should now be able to get your hands inside the tyre and remove the old inner tube...pop the valve of the new tube through the hole in the rim, then do the above process backward to put the tyre back in place. Reinflate (it might, actually, be easier to have a little bit of air in the tube as you're going along...you'll get a feel for this).

    3) Now you have the new inner tube in, let's fix the old one...Inflate it, til you can hear hissing or see it deflating...Dunk it in some water, look for where the bubbles are coming from. Once you've found the puncture, dry the surrounding area and mark it with the crayon (from the repair kit). Then follow the instructions on the kit to stick the patch over the hole...Now, fold the inner tube up, stick it in the box the new one came in - and you've got a spare to ride with in future :)

Edit: Found this: http://www.ehow.com/video_224_change-flat-tire.html - much better explanation than mine..(and I learnt something too...never knew that's what the hook on the tyre levers are for... :))

    Afternoon All :)

First post in this thread, from reading the first few pages, big thanks to parallel world for coming up with the idea and well done to everyone who's contributed thus far....

    ok on with my query...

I wondered if anyone had tried products from Maximuscle...

they provide a range of diet products as well as muscle building ones and I was considering trying them...

    http://www.maxiwomen.com/loseweightproducts.html

Has anyone else had a go? Would be interested to know if anyone has...

Am I also right in thinking I'm better off losing weight before I start to tone up?

    thanks

Hey Sara and welcome to the thread;)

I've used the maximuscle cyclone protein powder as it is probably the best on the market. As far as their weight loss products etc go I'm afraid I couldn't comment.

The losing weight before toning up is a bit of a catch 22. Most people want to lose weight fast and therefore diet and do cardio to extremes. This will burn off any muscle tone that you had previously, whether it's hidden under a layer of fat or not.

The best way is to incorperate both resistance and cardio into your regime and rather than 'diet', change your eating lifestyle. By this I mean, don't live off celery and water, just eat healthier options...Loads of fruit and veg...Less fats etc.

The reasoning is simple. You will build muscle tone as well as lose fat. This will raise your metabolism 24/7 which makes it easier to keep your weight on an even plane. You'll feel and look better for it. Slow and sensible is the key.
