Hey Sara and welcome to the thread;)
I've used the maximuscle cyclone protein powder as it is probably the best on the market. As far as their weight loss products etc go I'm afraid I couldn't comment.
The losing weight before toning up is a bit of a catch 22. Most people want to lose weight fast and therefore diet and do cardio to extremes. This will burn off any muscle tone that you had previously, whether it's hidden under a layer of fat or not.
The best way is to incorperate both resistance and cardio into your regime and rather than 'diet', change your eating lifestyle. By this I mean, don't live off celery and water, just eat healthier options...Loads of fruit and veg...Less fats etc.
The reasoning is simple. You will build muscle tone as well as lose fat. This will raise your metabolism 24/7 which makes it easier to keep your weight on an even plane. You'll feel and look better for it. Slow and sensible is the key.
Thanks John... still considering using the maximuscle shakes, will have to wait to see if someone comes along with experience first
...
erm on another note...
I want to lose about 21 lbs, how long realistically, (based on cardio with resistance training plus a low fat diet) do you think this should take?

Depends on how aggressive you're gonna be about it, what you're gonna do etc as well as how much weight you have to lose in the first place...For most people, though, I'd have thought that aiming to lose 1 or 2lbs a week was quite reasonable - so probably between 3 and 4 months, I guess....0 -
Thanks John

Hi Sara.
they reckon 2 lbs per week is the most you should aim to lose. Any more than this and your losing muscle. Bear in mind that you will lose more in the first few weeks, but a lot of this will be water weight.
Also, in 8 weeks you should see decent returns from your resistance exercise. So in 10 - 12 weeks you could be well on the way to your ultimate goal.John

Great post idiophreak re the tyre changing - you've prompted me to be more diligent about carrying the spare inner tube
Thanks
Hi Sara! I'm afraid I have no experience with the products you've linked but hopefully someone else will be able to help. John has given the perfect advice re losing weight & toning so I can only echo what he's said!
With my own weight loss, I did blitz the first stone before starting to up the exercise but that wasn't a conscious decision, it's simply because once I was lighter, I felt like doing moreAs a 'real life' example I've looked up my weight loss stats and it took me 11 weeks to lose the first 21lbs if that's any help. The second 21lbs took 20 weeks, and I've been maintaining since then.
Reporting in with a 10km jog today - that's a new PB for distanceMy time was 1:10:52, but I was only concerned about getting round without walking/stopping so I wasn't clock watching.

I got an awesome gadget a month or so ago, actually...it's a little pump, but a dual-action one (so it pumps when you push, then when you pull too). It's "auto-selecting" - it can be used on either presta valves or the car type - and it has a tiny puncture repair kit built into the handle (which rotates for an easier pump action) - Even came with a wee bracket for holding it on next to your bottle...one of the better £15s I've spent, I have to say...I know that if I've got that, I'll get myself home again
edit: ooh, and the puncture repair kit uses what I used to call scabs (not sure if that's a brand name)...basicaly just stickers...you stick it on the hole, pump up and off you go again...)0 -

To everyone elseThis is the best thread in ages, and we welcome lovely people who like to chit-chat about exercise and diet
As for my lovely bike, cheerz Idiophreak! I've done it& I've saved £8 - oh, and I know how to do it next time.. (hopefully I won't have to tho!)
I also got a mini pump that i've attached to the frame, LED lights incase I get caught out in the dark, some mudguards (3 for 2.. :money: ) - and a spare tube, although, I will fix the punctured one aswell, so I will have 2 spare.I'll leave one in the garage.
Well, my ride certainly burned some calories, my legs are killing me
I did 1 1/2 press ups today.. I saw half, because I was very nearly there!

Welcome to the thread Sara!!
I'm losing weight and exercising aswell, so I know what you mean about which one to do first.. I am finding the exercise is really helping my weight loss and stops me snacking when bored. Altho I do need to eat more protein and carbs than normal, but that is also more filling that high fat foods, so it's all good.
Once you get into a routine it really helpsI still have a day where I will have a takeaway, and others on here still drink at the weekend etc.. I think the trick is not to do too much so that you put yourself off.. Even if you loose 1lb a week, in 3 months you will have lost nearly a stone..
