I was at Virgin Active (Hammersmith) - £75/mth included all classes, tiny pool and skanky hard towels.
Now pay £19.95/mth at 'Better' gym (literally 50 metres down the road from Virgin), gym only no classes or pool BUT newer equipment, more equipment, bigger floor areas AND air con that actually works!
Should have done the switcheroo months ago!!
I still cannot believe the price, i feel like I'm robbing them!!

DW Fitness, £45 a month. Includes Gym, Swimming and Classes. It's fab, gym is huge, loads of equipment, lovely clean big pool and changing rooms, wide variety of classes and lots of them

I was paying about £72 per month with Virgin Active and now joined my local gym for £20 per month. A lot smaller, no tv's on the walls and no pool, but thats fine by me.

£30 per month for swim only with Better, which includes a 50m outdoor heated pool. I swim 4x weekly so it works out ok.
Have to pay £3 if I use the gym though so will have to rethink in winter when the pool closes.
Better's gym our way has a £5 monthly option where you pay £3 to swim each time or £7 to use the gym. I don't enjoy indoor over chlorinated over crowded pools and I don't like gyms, so not sure what I'll do.

Joined "The Gym Group" last week for £20.99 a month. "no frills" Gym but has more than enough cardio and weight equipment, but no pool or sauna. Better than the £70 Virgin Active want!!
