I use the conditioner method too with a nitty gritty comb, which reminds me, I need to do DD's hair too. OH done dinner, a load of washing done and that's about it...........off to nag DD to get the conditioner on her hair............xx
  • Totally agree with Valli here - the conditioner treatment is the most effective - and the cheapest. It is worth the time and effort in doing it regularly to ensure that there are no little hoppers.

When the yorkie kids were young I also had an electric nit comb. It was very effective - and very useful when you didn't want to wash little kids long hair on a school night. It was this one I think, but other ones are available:-

I also developed the habit of putting a few drops of tea tree oil in the last rinsing water for their hair - apparently the little b*****s don't like it!

I don't know how old your kids are OP, but once we got to secondary school we didn't have any problems...

I do exactly the same as Valli and CY..also since using Tea tree shampoo and conditioner on them..we have never had an infestation even though we have notes from school regularly...both my Littlies have long hair..even my son:)

Thanks everyone - it seems to be every week another letter is coming in from school, so everyone should be checking regularly, but I reckon some don't.

The kids are at the "funny" age - DS is almost 12 and won't let me see him naked and DS is 9 but an early starter (already in bras!!!) so is reluctant to let me see her boobies, hence buying the expensive stuff so I can put it on whilst sat in a chair. She's in the bath now, so I reckon I'll go and slap some of the Asda 50p conditioner on her that I bought specially for the job. I'll be back!

Lovely time had in the garden, exhausted now and still heaps to do.

DH has emptied my compost ready to use
DS1&3 helped move the log piles, wood store full again and a new 'next' pile created behind pruned bamboo.

Loads of dead stuff from last year cut back to the new buds
Big bit cut off a shrub which was getting too big
Compost bin already half full again
DH chopped the last of the wood to stack

At least another entire day needed out there just to get it straight before I do weeding, moving, feeding etc but progress has been made - then there is the front to tackle!

Only flying is washing drying on the line, I too wuld like a new line in a different position, keeping this one for heavy wash days.
