    Nice pictures, anonymousie!

The only thing that is stopping me from buying this is reading a review of it on amazon where it said there was no anti-shake which made it difficult to get good pictures...

...do you find this camera easy to use?

It is really easy to use- I think the weight does stabilise it fairly well. I have tried it outside taking macro/super macro pics of insects on flowers and flowers with zoom- all excellent detail. Indoors I did my usual photo shoot of the kids- quite a few pics that were the same really to capture different expressions etc- the ones that were "rubbish" were so because they had eyes closed etc, not one was out of focus etc. tHe face detection worked as DD litterally doubled up giggling at one point and, though she was "falling out" of the photo it was still clear as a bell!

My olympus has "anti shake" but I found it really poor for taking portrait type shots especially (you could have ant shake OR portrait mode for skin tone- not both:rolleyes: ).

BTW the photos above were just on auto point and shoot mode- haven't explored all the other possibilities yet.

Received today, like the feel and look of it, done some test shots which are excellent and the camera has a very intuitive menu sequencing system. Cant comment much more yet, but am very impressed at this early stage.

The "oldie" rule (when we used this "film" stuff...) was to use a minimum shutter speed equal to the focal length** So at 28mm anything faster than 1/28 should give a shake-free picture, at 300mm use 1/300 or faster. Obviously the more over the minimum, the less shaky the picture is likely to be.

Image-stabilisation can bring it's own problems as it lets you use a slower shutter speed. If you think about how long it would take for someone to walk from one side of your picture to the other - at 28mm a long time, at 300mm much less time. Combine this magnification of a scene and a slower shutter speed and you can end up with motion-blur. Try a long-distance stabilised shot with a fluttering flag in it. You can also get this effect with a non-stabilised camera on a tripod.

**Any passing pedants - use the reciprocal of the focal length...

Only thing that is putting me off this camera is the size, looks massive like other people have said.

I would be using it on a tripod a lot (for work) but I'd also want to use it without one, which is where the size is a negative aspect :(.

What I do like though is the extent of the manual configuration on it, I think I'd be able to really learn photography and achieve good results with it....

Just picked one up from Currys for the missus birthday next week.

Could anyone point me to the correct UV filter on Amazon? Is it the Hoya 55mm linked earlier?

Any other little accessories she should have? (Ive got xD card)

    Hi

Thanks HexusOdy, I am interested to know this too!

Also which type of memory card would people recommend - I'm new to digital! And any tips on best makes/prices for these would be really helpful.

Also(!) any recommendations for which type of rechargeable batteries and charger? A brief read of the instructions suggested you should only use the same make as were sold with the camera, ie Energizer - any views on this at all?

    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
