I recently replaced my film Pentak SLR with the 6500fd. Been realy pleased with it so far. Easy to use and takes great images. Another reason for me getting it was that I would be carrying less gear around with me on holidays. With the pentak I has a normal, wide and zoom lens. With the 6500 I just carry the camera. I got a couple of Hoya filters for it from Amazon. A 58mm UV to protect the lens which was about £12 and a polariser which was £27. Only bad thing was that I paid £203 for the camera in February. Actually I has a £15 voucher so it cost £188. I can't believe it is being sold so cheaply now.0

Can anyone tell me what the battery life is like with the 6500? I know it is a superb camera, but battery life is kind of essential for what I do.
edit: sorry, should have checked as the same question was asked earlier!!!Matched Betting and Casino Bagging Target: £3500 (Masters degree course fees)

I'm tempted to buy this as I'm impressed with my son's 5600, which I bought at Argos at Christmas courtesy of this site, and sell my 4 year old Minolta 7hi on Ebay - suprisingly, these are still reaching about £100 - any thoughts?0

If the battery life is anything like the 5600 then I wouldn't be tempted, I prefer cameras with rechargeable batteries as they have better life.
If you want to use the zoom then I would have thought you would need image stabilisation. These are the two things that took me over to the panasonic tz1 - more money initially but had the stabilisation and battery , has a decent 10x optical zoom lens.Weight loss since 01/08/07 - 72 lbs:j0 -

My son's 5600 uses AA's and with rechargeable's (7dayshop 2500 Mah) lasts for ever - he has never has to change a fully charged set and as a 14 year, he takes lots of photos - that's one of my reasons for wanting to change - the other is the weight of the camera. Thanks for your advice.
Actually the TZ1 is the same price, but a compact camera.0 -

I also own a Dimage 7Hi which I use as a wide angle camera as my Panasonic FZ50 only does 35mm  I do like the Minolta but it is a hugely complicated camera (wouldn't you agree) in the sense that is difficult to work your way around the buttons and menus, however it is also a hugely sophisticated camera capable of taking quality images. The place I find the 7Hi a let down is focusing in low light and it annoys me immensley to find the image blurred on screen which looked fine on the (rather poor) LCD!
I guess when the Minolta was released it was aimed at the higher end market (at £700) which I would say the Fuji is not, but as technology has progressed I would say for sure the Fuji has overtaken the Minolta in all areas and would say (I will do some tests when it arrives) would surely outclass the Minolta in all areas. In fact you now got me thinking whether I should sell my Minolta and bag another of these for myself........why did you have to ask that question;)The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.0 -
Furthermore........I decided to do a bit of a comparison between a few of the cameras I own and this Fuji and must say I am very impressed, more than I thought I would and now I have possibly been forced into buying another one
Try this site for anyone wanting to compare images
http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
Compares images side by side from many differnet cams, for those with older cams you may well have to select 'All' at the top of the page....it is a great cross reference site :T
And because it is an American site this s6500fd is called s6000fd in America, makes things simpler....probably!The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.0 -
Got mine, like the look of it already. :j
Now busy composing my 'for sale' advert for work to sell my V10 (which is also Fuji, and I liked that too), but I cannot justify keeping both, so it has to go.:(I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!

Thanks doozerUk. We picked ours up at Jessops yesterday after reseving it on Friday night. They were sold out at BlueWaterwhen we picked it up.
The store tried to seel us a 2GB XD memory card at £52 and a battery Charger plus 4 batteries at around £25.
I got the memory last night on Amazon for £19 plus £5 P&P and the battery charger with 4 high garde batteries for £14 + £6 P&P .
Th lady at Jessops said that they were discouting this Camera as a new line will be coming out shortly.Be Kind0 -

The cheek of Jessops with their accessories, but I bet they sell as many of these as they do cameras and the Mark-Up is far greater.
No doubt a 'new line' will be coming out, there always is!! Cameras are like PC's, your new one is almost immediately superceded by something better.
The thing is, it's not all about megapixels, its the quality of the lens and CCD, and these are excellent value for £135 (after Quidco).:j:beer:I didn't do it, nobody saw me do it, you can't prove a thing!
