Hi Rebelred, great advice from Puzz, just a word to caution that have seen quite a few reports on the forums that Very and associated catalogues can be extremely harsh and discouraging on the phone. So try to be prepared and strong, You sound very sensible and I'm sure you'll be fine but wanted to prewarn you

Thanks Sazzie! I've already had a bad experience with New Look after I phoned them. It really knocked me and got very upset :( I received another email off them today saying they will be sending me monthly statements so I can keep track of my account
  • I was brave and phoned them. They knew I was dealing with SC but they didn't have my Ref (which was on the letter I sent them telling them I was with sc) and they haven't received any paperwork from sc? This worries me a little as the cc people have already agreed to the plan so they have received everything. I'm pretty sure Very/isme/littlewoods (please don't judge) are the same company so I'm hoping now one of them have the Ref they might leave me alone.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

Woohoooo!!! I am super mega excited!! I received my updated statement from the Halifax where they have refunded some charges and interest. The balance has come down from £4,193.23 to £2,994.80 and I have just updated that balance on SC's website and it has brought my debt free date forward by a whole month!!

Great going there GUO. Contrary to that I've just received a letter from Halifax saying " In answer to your concerns, unfortunately we are unable to suspend interest on the agreement. Our policy (agreed through all major Debt Management companies and the CAB) states that if you are paying 33% or more of the contractual monthly payment then interest will not be suspended". This seems like their final word, so now have to think where to go from here. I don't know if I'll get much joy from SC because they have a particular methodology for calculating who gets what and from what I've read on here, are not inclined to deviate from that. Not sure if FOS will be of help either.

Anyway - glad to hear you've finally got them to see sense at least :)

It's worth a go with the FOS. You have absolutely nothing to lose, they do all the work for you and they even charge Halifax £500 for the pleasure :)

The Halifax are still charging us 1%, the refund we received was in respect of interest and late payment fees 'when the plans were not in place'. I think this refers to the fact that with the Halifax they renew our plan every 6 months so if there is any delay to setting up the plan when the 6 months runs out they lump on charges and interest. Plus we had a couple of occasions where we had to make a reduced payment due to the car needing repairs, which also meant our agreement had been broken and had to be set up again. Mind you they didn't offer anything back when we complained to them. It was only when we took it to the FOS that anything happened.
