Does the law need changing vote

If as you propose, it became law which IMO is ridiculous, what if people had no where to store 4 tyres and rims, what would you propose.
there are people who live in small flats with a single parking space, or without parking come to that
Ask the Germans what they do. Its LAW over there.
I would guess if it became law, there would be any amount of storage units pop up that would store the spare set of rims for a few pounds.0 -

So costing even more money, sounds like a great system to me.Self storage units are not cheap
IMO there is no need for winter tyres, I drive 30000 miles a year and have done for years, and have never been stuck or had any incidents when the temp has been below 7*
Education is what is required
I wasnt asking the Germans or the Austrians, i was asking on here of people who advocate the change0 -

You're lucky then. But I bet you've been held up, as we all have, in countless traffic jams due to accidents this time of year that "may" have been preventable had the driver had a set of appropriate tyres fitted.
I think you would probably struggle to amass enough (if any) evidence that a blanket law forcing people to buy/use Winter tyres would reduce accidents sufficiently to justify their purchase.
Most winter accidents are probably caused by total loss of grip due to ice etc rather than reduced grip due to the tyre rubber being unsuitable. Even Winter tyres will not grip on ice. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
So, four winter tyres, four alloys (I wouldn't be seen dead with steel rims on my car) and the cost of a storage unit for five or six months, some people are obviously made of money.
Bit less right foot as appropriate and switch to a slightly less aggressive remap will do for me.
If you want to reduce winter accidents then a better option would be to ban rear wheel drive cars between November and March.0 -
Not unsafe no, but not AS safe. Given the choice, in wet conditions would you prefer a tyre with 7mm of tread or one with 4mm, whilst the 4mm tyre is not inherently unsafe in the conditions on the rarest of occasions when you'd need more grip you would probably want to bet your life and that of your loved ones on the tyre that's best prepared to get you out of trouble. The same can be said for the difference of a winter vs summer tyre in cold, winter conditions.
So do you change your tyres when they get down to 4mm? If so can you tell me what size they are as I might be interested in taking them off your hands.0 -
They cost a fraction of the price we are charged here on the continent.
They are the latest lets rip the brits off product.
Some garages have made small fortunes out of filling vans with common sizes, buying scrap rims, loading them up and a set of £140 Winter tyres and junk yard steel rims sells on e-bay at £600 ++.
On the continent they are sold as low quality throw away once a year tyres.
Over here they are gold dust.Be happy...;)0
