Does the law need changing vote

Do you think the law needs to be changed regarding using winter tyres between October and March?
If we have an "Indian" Summer and a nice warm Spring, then your Winter tyres will not last very long, unless of course in addition to "driving in the snow", you would like to add "frequent wheel/tyre changing" to your list of hobbies;)
Buy a decent all round tyre, let out a bit of pressure, and drive slower and smoother, and plan your routes.0 -
Clearly the people proposing alternatives to using winter tyres don't live somewhere where they are beneficial - I do, and wouldn't be without them now, after 3 winters with them. However, a law to enforce their use would be utterly ridiculous in the UK, where for the vast majority of the population they would only be helpful on a few days a year at most.0

As I currently struggle to find somewhere to keep the plethora of bins that the council insist that I have, where would you suggest that I keep 4 wheels for 9 months of the year? Of course the storage conditions would need to be controlled to prevent degradation of the tyre etc. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Yes, I believe in getting the right tyres for the conditions, hence why I've got winters on at the mo, and no I don't think it should be law in the UK. Although there is a case for better education regarding their benefits.0 -
Apart from one slippy morning on way to work last November, I've never had a problem driving in the snow/ice/cold.
Even if I did have winter tyres I don't think they would have made any difference to that morning last November.0 -

I think he may well be right I always thought that most tyres are summer tyres and that all weather and winter tyres were a "special" purchase0 -
I use winter tyres every year because where I live there are pronounced benifits (N/E Scotland).
Most people don't understand that the main reason for winter tyres is not snow and ice but temperature. Around here from November to february it rarely gets above 8 deg and so winter tyres are a better option than summer/all weather tyres.
But in most of the UK this is not the case and so a law forcing people to use winter tyres would be daft. Although a little education about winter tyres would be a very good idea.0
