I can't help but feel that contradictory messages are being being constantly fed to the public.
Contradictory messages are the least of your problems.
People that were unable to fend for themselves were deliberately starved and deprived of water. They were forced to lie in their own filth and babies were gagged.
That's not so much contradictory as....what? A conspiracy to manslaughter? Murder?
If no criminal act was committed then what would be criminal? If a criminal act was committed then why no trial?0 -

You are no doubt right that there is varying degrees of culpability if not murder at least some form of manslaughter perhaps.
Where does responsibility lie and how far up the chain of command should this rise? Is it just the health trust or does blame rest as far as The Secreatry for State? Is it those that gave the direction, or those that followed it?
Interestingly the Head of the Trust who is now Head of The NHS was being praised yesterday by Alan Johnson on BBC This week (first link form 26:10 - 32:00 in) It appears he passed over the mantle to Martin Yeates featured in the third link.
We have bankers who have brought the world to its knees committing god knows what criminal acts - have they been routed out? Yes a few token heads have fallen on the swords, more likely pushed.

Chief Exec sets the tone. As it is they and the trust board that appoint the senior team .
Trouble is hospital's employ thousands of people. So a cultural change takes time to effect.
Maybe its cultural as well . Like banks, the NHS is about people. So maybe we all need to take a look at ourselves.0 -

What has that got to with my reply to your suggestion that people abuse the NHS by attending unnecessarily?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

My sister (a staff nurse) tells me a simple tale of ownership, pride and dedication, she tells me of a time dedicated cleaners on hospital wards were the norm and woe betide any nurse getting in the way of their desire for keeping the place spotless. Now ownership is zero as contracted out minimum wage cleaners are bussed in
She tells me about the old days when nursing cover was important where now a nurse can be required to operate alone at night. It does appear that the NHS has lost its way with ridiculous pay rises for GPs and to much nursing specialisation and promotion chasing. 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. Care, compassion and bean counters are incompatible. Patients aren't commodities."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

It is probably far too simplistic a suggestion - but why on earth do we not separate the treatment of the sick on the National Health Service into four (1) Medical; (2) Surgical; (3) Nursing and (4) Housekeeping.
The first three are obvious and people who go into these professions should obviously be made aware all through their training and careers that first and foremost in the progression of their careers must be compassion for their patients.
The last one - housekeeping - should be handed over to the responsibility of five-star hotel management companies - companies who know that their reputation depends upon the cleanliness of their accommodation and the care they lavish upon their customers.
Oh well - in an ideal world, it might work!0 -

My partner is a senior NHS manager. New Years Eve was extremely busy in her speciality. Despite not being on call that evening. She saw New Year in, in an ambulance taking a 11 week baby in an ambulance to another hospital for emergency surgery. As she wasn't allowed to ride in the ambulance home. She finally managed to get a taxi that got her home at 6.40am.
There are many good people in the NHS. I know many. Likewise there are equally as many who don't have the same of commitment to the vocation. I could relate terrible tales. Including a case of death by negligence. There's a lack of consistancy. Which ultimately comes down to how individuals diligently perform their jobs.0 -

Nothing. It was just an attempt to bring the thread back on topic.
The deliberate actions of doctors and nurses led to suffering and death. I think it's important to focus on that. Do you think it's reasonable for nurse to starve patients to death? I don't. I'm amazed there isn't more outrage at this.0 -

Stafford is an horrendous catalogue of mismanagement at many levels with a top down push.
I accept that there are bad examples elsewhere and these are regrettable but at an individual level. Are the majority being "rubbished" because of a few bad apples?
There is obviously a need for realignment of priorities in the NHS. Whether this will actually happen in reality, with the financial pressures and constant change they are under, I am not so sure."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
