The NHS is the envy of the world, that's what every British child is brought up to believe.

BTW does anyone know who you can report this stuff to? At the same time this was going on, one of the London Hospitals was doing pretty much the same thing to my son and wife during his first days on Earth.0

It is astonishing but there isn't a body that takes complaints from hospitals. Hospitals have their own "customer services" departments.
What is more astonishing is that David Nicholson has still got a job in the NHS (he had oversight of the Mid-Staffs hospital in the 2000s).
Until there is accountability and heads role, no one will really believe that change is on the way.0 -
Is the CEO at mid staffs at the time now saying he is too stressed t answer for himself? Seems to be well enough to draw the pension though.0

They taped a dummy to your son's face?
I thought you reported this kind of thing to PALS (or the Police...)
http://www.pals.nhs.uk/
I must say, I've seen some very good things of the NHS recently. They did a bit of a botch job on delivering my first son (wife nearly died twice, ect) but did a cracking job on our second. Some bits of the NHS work very well, some not very well. Just like any major organisation (and it is one of the largest in the world)0 -
The answer is obviosuly lots more money...except that lots more money was applied in the years leading up to the Staffs debacle.
The answer is clearly not for the govt to pay for treatment provided by the private sector as :
a) no one would chose to be treated in a private hospital rather than an NHS one given the choice
b) IN France where they have such a public funded private provision system health outcomes are appalling and the public and constantly complaining about the poor treatment
Edit: For those wishing to play the man rather than the ball, perhaps you could start your reply with 'Daily mail reading....'I think....0 -

No but they refused to change his nappy for 4 days despite his mother being in bed recovering from a Cesar and thus unable to move.
When I returned to the hospital after 12 hours I was shocked to discover his bad and back were soaked with urine. The same happened on future visits. In 4 days he was never changed by the nurses and my attempts to get a nappy or fresh bedding for him were met with hostility and what could be considered threats towards the care of my wife (I didn't take them in that way but some sensitive types would).
I had deliberately delayed taking my paternity leave until Mrs Generali and the Generalissimo were out of hospital as I had assumed that some basic level of care would be provided to them both. I had hoped to take extra time to care for them at home after they were discharged. I won't be making that mistake in the UK again!
From my experience, if you are in hospital and incapacitated then ensure that you have a steady supply of basic requirements because you can't rely on a nurse to bring them, even if you're a few hours old.
ETA: I was prohibited from providing my own nappies as it was 'insanitary'. Better for him to lie in his own p 1 ss.0 -

Unfortunately I'm a bit of an expert complainant.
I recently complained to a Hospital. I simply found the trust directors details and made it personal.
Works wonders every time.
This is the reason Brits for decades have had to endure dreadful service and care. No one complains. It drives me potty. Above all if you ever have an eldrely relative in care, it's up to you to make damned sure those carers and nurses know your'e on the case.
PREDICTION> these horror stories will not end until staff are made personally liable. It worked in the financial advice arena!0 -
PS - for 25 years I've heard comittee after comittee reporting on everything from kids failed by social services to abuse of mentally vulnerable in-patients and the words they use never change;
"this time lessons must be learend to ensure this never happens again"
"agencies must talk to one another"
Listen out for these phrases in the comming years folks. They were used way back in a Brighton child abuse failure in the early 1970's.0 -
Not sure I understand the significance of the thread title. These issues happened and are acknowledged to have been largely caused by the Targets and Trusts policies of the previous Government.
However, these issues are indicative of ongoing failures, and failures of the public trust across all of public services. Organisations seem to have adopted the worst aspects of corporate-style self-belief, and have too little focus on their actual priorities, the essential one being service users.0 -

During the 1987 election campaign, Mrs (now Lady) Thatcher claimed that the NHS is in our hands.
That was much derided by Labour and their apologists in future years.0
