Some pensioners will be affected by the 'bedroom tax'

I have to say it really annoys me with the amount of people...saying its to get the lazy not working off the bums and out to work, and people with spare rooms, what about the innocents in this ? I work part time and have 2 children 1 girl 5 and 1 boy 3 years old. I have always worked, never signed on in my 33 years, and I pay the same bills everyone else does who owns there home..so I made a few bad decisions early on my life, which has prevented me getting on the property ladder. I moved into a small 2 bedroom house when I had my little girl, and then obviously 2 years later my little boy,on enquiring to my local council they deemed the single room in the house to small for my children and so we have the house we are in now. Which is a 3 bed,but because my children are under 10 I will fall foul of the reform. It's unfair that the council deemed the last room to small but now want to charge me £60 pm for what we have now,and just to top it all off my sons bedroom has a floor space of 5.5 square foot, we had to adapt it to fit a bed ....it's ludicrous that I should pay £60 pm for this. I just wish people would stop piping up and tarring everyone in social housing with the same brush, yes there may be people who deserve to pay up, but there are a whole lot more who are going to suffer :-( me included
Why are you whinging? all you are going to be paying is £14 rent for a 3 bed house, the state will still be paying the rest.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Erm excuse I wish I would be paying £14 pw for a 3 bedroom house, if this was the case then I would have no cause to whine, but I already pay rent as I pointed out in previous post, my rent is topped up by housing benefit as I work part time .....or at least it was I earn £450 pm which doesn't go far, so maybe I would be better off not working and sitting on my bum ?Don't expect everyone to understand your journey, especially If they've never had to walk your path!!0

Well to be fair wether it's a reduction in my aid or a charge ....it's still coming out of my pocket :-/ when I don't earn a great deal anywayDon't expect everyone to understand your journey, especially If they've never had to walk your path!!0

And totally off subject but to top it off, because of a mistake they made, and my letter reads "we agree it was our error" by not adding in my tax credit notice that I sent them, what they had been paying was wrong, but I'm liable because I didn't notice THERE mistake....which is another reduction of £60 pm...so there's £120 before I even add in my rent *sighs* I give up :-(Don't expect everyone to understand your journey, especially If they've never had to walk your path!!0

You may have "always " worked but you obviously also claim benefits or else you wouldn't be affected. Fortunately for you there will soon be plenty of two bed properties available as there seem to be a glut of these around because of the number which have been allocated to single people.

Perhaps the children's father could make a contribution.0 -

No I did get help with housing benefit with the new changes will be entitled to none, my point is if they are spare fair enough they are wasted, I have children in mine,I think 10 Is way to old to be sharing for a boy and girl, and don't see why it should be reduced in this case. Thank you for pointing out my partner ...I knew he was there, who has just had his back operated on and can't work atm,and who is entitled to claim nothing because I earn £450 pm which is being taken off me left right and centre, you do the sums. Everyone is entitled to there opinion and I think it's wrongDon't expect everyone to understand your journey, especially If they've never had to walk your path!!0

not so many years ago. it was common for different sex siblings to have to share intil they left home.
my mother shared a home with her parents and 3 siblings.
it was a 2 bed terraced huse.
as i have previously said .. i dont disagree with the reform in principle, and for posters moaning that have the ability to downsize... i say stop whittering and do what you need to.
there are plent like me for whom downsizing is not an option and so we have no choice but to lose benefit0
