Out of interest, I just checked housing in my area too - no less than 9 one bed properties this week!

Brilliant! So only another 534,591 one-bedroom properties needed to solve the 'problem'.

The 'problem' will never be solved but it does show people aren't being entirely truthful when they say there is no one-bed homes.

Why would you need to work nights when you have a partner living with you who could look after the children?

I don't kniw why dunroamin but feels like you are getting at me? I will be the first to admit that I have not gone about things the right way,and have maybe gone about things the easy way the last 5 years but at times I have had to,after having my daughter and then a near breakdown when my mum took her own life...coupled with helping my sister get off heroine (who is clean and a mum if twins now) FT work maybe has not been on my agenda,I know everyone has ther own issues and I'm not the only one who has been dealt a bad hand.... But I am also trying to turn it around.up until I had my first child,I have always worked, and full time same as everyone else, and plan to again

There aren't enough one-bedroom properties for all of the people potentially displaced by the bedroom tax. I don't think anyone is claiming that there aren't any.

Joanne have you thought about either of you upskilling in the short term? The open university do courses and local colleges do courses. If he has crack problems but knowledge of the building trade perhaps he can look to transfer knowledge into another area, engineering, electronics etc.

Same goes for you if part time.

Life is what you make it, and you only get one shot so if working isn't a possibility is up skilling?

Actually many I know professionally are more than happy to pay for the extra room and it doesn't bother them.

I have looked at OU courses...I really wanted to get into councilling, or something along them lines....but got all confused by the fees and loans etc. but transferring his knowledge is a brilliant idea, something in the trade that is not so manual :T thank you everyone has given me lots to think about. I am to start training in a few weeks in another department...I'm hoping this can give me an advantage, I have worked for same company for 10 years so venturing out is a little scary, but I will explore all avenues
