    Hi,
We have two bay windows fitted with Aluminum framed double glazing over 20 years ago and are now quite drafty. Would these quality for some funding from the Green Deal?

Not under the GDHIF, must be replacing 1G windows.

Under the Green Deal it is possible if it passes the "golden rule" - look it up. Depends on the current U values and the prospective U values.

    hello!

just read all about this on the MSE newsletter, and have a question...

we're currently in the process of buying a house (assuming the survey goes to plan and everything carries on the way things are going, we expect to complete sometime in the next few weeks)

the house needs a fair bit of work - we were planning on getting a full electrical rewire done as well as ripping out the current 70's warm air heating system and getting a combi boiler and central heating fitted. (or potentially a replacement warm air unit, which i notice is also included)

would we be eligible for this scheme at all (for the boiler side of things, not the rewire), seeing as we havent actually bought the place yet, could we apply for funding when it opens on monday based on the fact we would be getting the work done in around a months time (as soon as we get the keys basically), or would we have to wait till the next round of funding (if there is one) to apply? as we're wanting to do as much work as possible before we move in to minimise disruption, this seems like a perfect time to be doing it instead of waiting several months for the next amount to come through, by which time we'll have moved in already...

    cheers,
    w.

Hi all, Martins email has perked up my interest in the green deal home improvement fund. Just a few questions for anyone knowledgeable.

I have one single glazed window remaining in my house, can I apply for just one window or does an application have to be the whole house?

I only require room in roof insulation from the list but obviously need two improvements. Would the window qualify me?

Can I use a different installer for each job?

I have an epc from buying the house in Jan, I take it I can use this and also get the £500 bonus. This means my max would be £1750?

And finally does the scheme open at 00:01 on the 16th March?

    Hi,
I had a green deal assessment done in January 2014, after that I changed the boiler and got the green deal money. I live in a conservation area and I also got done secondary glazing in the house because I can't have the double glazing... I didn't think about applying then for green deal... Could I still get it?

    Regards,
  • Thanks Ken, I thought this was the case.

Nope, has to cover 50% or more of your windows.

I really think Mr Lewis ought to research these schemes he recommends. Unless you are getting EWI for a solid wall property it's a job fulfilling the criteria.

A bribe is a bribe, and this one is funded by higher bills for everyone .. Where did you think the money came from ?
    I don't accept bribes, do you ?

Yes be energy efficient, but do it off your own bat.
instead of schemes with inflated costs cos someone else is paying.
    - Be aware of the law of unintended consequences .
    - 5 Live Investigates recently reported on the 12,000 home owners who have big costs now to remove incorrectly installed cavity wall insulation which was sipposed to be free under the green deal.

Recently purchased my first flat and the EPC recommends 2 options
    • Increase loft insulation to 270mm
    • Fan-assisted storage heaters
Am i able to just take one of the options (new storage heaters), or do i need to improve on 2 levels? Is loft insulation even covered?

If i've understood it correctly i would be entitled to £1250 + 500 for replacing the storage heaters. Pretty sure £1750 should fully cover new heaters so seems like a no-brainer!

For the GDHIF you have to take two options. Loft insulation is not covered. Fan assisted storage heaters are (so long as you replace at least three).

You might be able to get loft insulation done under ECO which is the scheme behind which BG et al advertise on TV.

Otherwise get it done privately, it's not expensive and will soon repay.
