I've probably missed the boat on this. After calling around numerous companies for quotes on 2 measures, I managed to get one genuine quote for the boiler replacement.
The cavity wall insulation was a different matter and I can see why installers are loath to provide a quote.
So far I've had 4 cavity wall installers visit my property. They all try to force me down the ECO route and want to get a new EPC.
I can see where this is open to abuse due to the way the funding is arranged.
The ECO scheme reimburses the installer over a number of years depending on the carbon saving by installing the cavity wall.
For larger properties such as a detached house, this will mean a greater return than simply providing a quote for a green deal install.
They compound this by requesting a new EPC which will inflate the savings (provided by a friendly EPC assessor) and hence a greater return.
One company I came across are clearly operating under this model, quite flatly lied about the way the green deal scheme and eco scheme works.
So I've nearly given up, it's a good idea in principal, but the execution is poor especially with conflicting schemes operating at the same time.

    Hi there,

I've just bought a house that has a 15 year old non-condensing boiler. The EPC states that a thermostat fitted to the water tank and a modern efficient boiler will save me a good bit of cash.

How does this work in a nutshell? Is it a grant or a loan and is it worth the effort?

I've been on the decc.gov.uk site but am finding it virtually impossible to find installers in Halifax.

If I do find an installer, do they just jack up the price?
  • I received a phone call last July from a green deal assessor saying that I could have a new boiler through the green deal that the government was bring out and that I would have to pay £199 up front to have my home assessed to see if i was eligible. That I would have £100 back from the government and that there was still money in the pot to get the deal. I agreed I paid the £199, via my debit card but found out I was charged £238. T he assessor turned up two days earlier than agreed and spent 20 minutes assessor my home. I complained to the green deal company and was given an independent assessor to iron out my complaint that the assessment was very quick as they said it would take an hour to do. He was a very nice young man who said after several emails that he would see it through to the end as no one from the company had contacted me after the initial complaint. He came to teh house and reassessed my home given it an e grading which was the same as the first assessor, which was not the problem but the way it was done. Also I asked him about the charge that was in excess of what I was told originally. he said that he would go and listen to the recordings and he would get back to me. He did not until I emailed him, to which he said as I had not heard from the company he would see it through to the end. he did inform me that the government was giving out more funding in November but guess what! that was the last I had heard from him.

So the £199. cost that turned out to be £238 was for nothing. I never heard from any of them again and the person who was running this had received an award for his work Ha! In the end I paid out for a boiler to be installed by a private Gas Safe plumber. So I have a new boiler paid out by myself and still have an E grading. Also before this I had a green deal company call to give me a quote for a boiler which would have cost £900 plus interest. So beware of these deals before parting with your money because like me you could be just giving your money away and as a pensioner it was money I could ill afford.

Does anybody know how long it takes to receive confirmation of successful application for Green Deal HIF? I submitted mine a week ago on Monday 16th March, but aside from the application confirmation email, I've heard nothing. No indication in the email or T&Cs of any time scale. Could do with knowing if it's a yes or no as boiler on its last legs.

I rang them today as I'm waiting for confirmation too. Apparently there's a 20 working day turn-around on applications at the moment :(
  • Thanks,
Although if I were to go with the current installer I'd get a really good deal, if I were to go with Anglian or anyone else I'm sure it'd cost me a lot more, enough to offset and handout/rebate.
I was hoping to go with the quote I already have from a local company, prove I've had the measures done and get some rebate.
I'll have to look into the financing of it a little closer and see what works best for me.

Has anyone had any luck finding anyone that does windows through the green deal in the East Midlands?
  • I have applied for the Green deal phase 3 on 16/03. Do you have any news or email from The Green Deal Home Improvement Fund Administrator or have you received your voucher.

    Many thanks
  • Hi - had our first green deal quote - had to ask for a breakdown of the charges (which didn't seem right) and now we've received this I can see they'll be charging us a £500 admin fee!! This seems very excessive - anyone else experienced this?
  • Guys can someone please help with some info please - I was told today by a Green Deal provider that the money released by the government on the 16th of March has not been made available yet!!

Is this true and has anyone else heard this?

I have a green deal assessor visiting me this week at a cost of £180 and I'm starting to panic as to whether I've chosen a dodgy green deal provider as my understanding is that the money HAS been released?

Is my green deal provider lying to me or making excuses?

    PLEASE help!
