I have a question... since the OP's package obviously had stamps on it, does that mean the seller put the stamps on themselves or was it the Post Office?

I ask because whenever I take something to the PO they simply put a "1st" or "2nd" sticky label on it.

Does every Post Office do this or do some use stamps instead? Or it simply whatever is most convenient behind the counter at the time?

It varies. Sometimes my items are too small for the enormous postage labels and they use a stamp.

    Utter rubbish.
What does it matter what the service actually cost, you agreed to buy it, stop moaning about it. :D

Why cant buyers see that if the p&p was free the item would cost more in the fist place.
    £1 item £10 p&p
    £10 item £1 p&p
Spot the difference with the above.
Oddly enough I agree with you, the fact is that you can't make all the buyers agree and if you are a professional/regular seller you need to keep the buyers sweet to get return custom. No amount of saying it shouldn't be so will make the slightest difference.

Unfortunately - thats just not true on Ebay - due to the option to order by price.

I have tried both says - but an item at £10 with £5 postage will sell much quicker than an item at £15 with free p&p.

I think the buyers just feels they have got the item cheaper.
I also mix and match as a seller and it seems to vary as to what sells with 'free' post and something with post to add on, with the same prices.
As a buyer, which I'm not too often, I'll look for the best overall price. I usually avoid anyone with 99p listing and £20 postage, if they're doing it to avoid fees, but otherwise I'm not too bothered.

I have noticed that if there are a lot of an item and you do search on price the free post items still appear higher in the search.

    So much excitement over £2.30.

    Really?

    :silenced:
fifty or sixty sales to different people with excess of £2.30 a pop soon adds up to a LOT of extra money.

Where's the worry? If the experts are right, the account won't last that long.
150 quid, mythical at that, a lot of money? Maybe to a twelve year old.

On a previous thread (that I started w/reg to a blip on my DSR) the OP commented : " I charge 21 pence LESS than what it costs me to post and do not charge for packing". The OP presumably expects other ebayers to follow their example in this matter - lord help anyone who actually does have to charge for p&p

They must charge more for their item then, otherwise they would just be losing money. I certainly won't be paying people to take my stuff from me! The next lot of dvds can go to cash converters.

It depends on whether you are a "clear out" seller - in which case your stuff probably doesn't have a defined value, or some kind of professional/semi-pro seller selling something that has originally been bought or made by you - in which case there are costs to cover.

I suspect that many buyers want the best of both worlds - a nonchalant approach to selling prices & fees combined with a professional approach to packing and service.

    Good luck with that.

That's correct, well spotted. I still get 3's and 4's - but very occasionally.

I don't expect others to follow my example. I charge less for postage because I want to keep a high score, which is 4.93 despite charging less than cost - that's buyers for you! What I objected to was being over charged by 2.30 and not receiving the service quoted on the listing (recorded) so as far as I am concerned a low score was justified for P&P as I did contact the seller and they couldn't have cared less. If that's unreasonable of me then how should I have scored it?

Now that we know that you didn't receive the standard of postage you paid for, it's understandable that you marked them down.

I don't have an issue with that at all.
