Trying for a Baby Part 9

You eat normally for 5 days a week. By 'normally' for example two weeks ago when I started I ate take out curry, dominos pizza and macdonalds... not something I'm proud of but I was post-op and did not have the energy or motivation to cook! My name is TCD and I have a problem with junk food....
Then for two days a week (not consecutive days though- my fast days are Tuesday & Thursday- but you can chop and change according to your social life/ plans) you eat 500 calories- you can spread these out however you want so you don't feel you're skipping a meal or have them all at once. Personally I eat a large tea when I get home from work and just drink water and black tea all day.
There's a book (I think it's about £2-£3 in asda/ tesco) about it by Dr Michael Mosley who also documented it on a BBC horizon's programme in September last year- if you *really* look hard for it you can find links to the programme on the internet
The idea is that you don't eat anymore than you normally would on your normal days- and to be honest you don't wake up ravenously hungry the day after a fast- which leads to your calorie deficit and weight loss. There are lots of scientific studies done into it that also show possibilities of a reduction in cancer risk, lower bad cholesterol and that you lose fat rather than muscle...
When I first heard about it I thought it was the faddiest thing I'd ever heard of- then I read around, watched the programme and looked at some of the studies and this way of eating now makes sense to me. It also stops me from feeling deprived- sure, sometimes on fast days I get hungry and could really murder a slice of cake BUT I can have that slice of cake the next day. Knowing that helps me stay on the wagon- I only have to have willpower for one day.
Obviously this might not be suitable for everyone but there's a forum on the 5:2 diet on this website- you could read that and see if it's suitable for you?
Sorry about the long post- I just know how hideous losing weight is and I haven't felt that way eating this way. I can see me doing this for the rest of my life and I don't feel remotely depressed by the idea of that!0 -

Congrats Hopelass :j
A couple of you mentioned pregnacare - I couldn't take that, it gave me really bad tummy pain, trapped wind and constipation (:rotfl:) so I took the Sanatogen one instead, although it's hard to find.....TTC #3..........0 -

It's not that he's condescending or doubting me per se, it's more of: he's worried about me and what I might be doing and what me giving up on yet another thing could do to my mental state. He has legitimate worries, I'll give him that. He always tries to help, he just doesn't know how most of the time.0 -
Wonderful PMA TL! :T
That's a really interesting diet TCD. Might look into that.My OH is another one who's a bit against anything 'faddy' that I try though. He doesn't have to really work at staying slim (the guy eats like a horse yet has a 32" waist) and can't really understand people who struggle (like me!) because in his mind it's all so simple.
If only he knew what it was like to be me for a day!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
That's alright then Mrs TM- my DH usually rolls his eyes as though he's thinking 'here we go again'... he doesn't struggle with his weight either.

Team lowe, I love the sound of tinyZ
I developed a case of line eye last night and thought I could see a tiny tiny tiny thin line of colour on yesterday's test. I went back to it after a bit, & could only really see something very very faint on really close inspection and tilting and all that stuff you're not supposed to do.It could very easily be an evap, although the one from 11dpo doesn't have it
I only have one IC left, do I leave it for tomorrow in the hopes AF doesn't arrive and the/any line could be strong enough by then, or do I save a sample of fmu for when dh is home and test today and buy some shop cheapies if it's not conclusive? (I can't test before dh is home - he deserves to be the first person to know if I get a line, especially after all this time)
Mrs TM, I've been very close to where you are right now. When I started off, was told I had pcos and insulin resistance, I was 272lbs. I'm now 198lbs. 74lbs/5.25st/13BMI points gone. It took about 18 months to get here, and I still have 10lbs before I can be referred for ivf, but I've done so well that I'm actually happy with where I'm at right now. I'm still a few stones (14lbs in a stone) from where I'd be ideally, but if you constantly focus on that long term, far away, impossible seeming goal, you'll just be so disheartened you'll want to give up before you even start! Or at least, I did.;) When they basically said I needed to lose 6st to get my shot at a baby it seemed too insurmountable! Now I'm not too far off, unbelievably!
Break it up into small realistic goals with timescales. Eg, my first goal was to lose 7lbs by my birthday (it was a few weeks away) and if I did we were "allowed" to go away for the weekend. Don't overwhelm your self with the big picture. Just take small steps and in months to come you won't believe how far you've come!"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -

I really really really want it to be a real line for you! :rotfl:0 -
