Who is paying for the tcket?

And does your son have the £60 he owes? He should pay that back before he uses money to swan off the to States to meet a girl.

    Your OH has a point.

DS is paying for his own ticket, and yes he does have the £60.00 to give, and its been genuinely forgotten, but I thought OH's first response would have been much like mine.

Assuming it's genuine and she's a girl and not a 40 year old gamer bloke.

If he's naive about travel then this is probably the safest way for him to be introduced to it. Being picked up at the airport by her mum takes away the hardest/riskiest/most vulnerable to being ripped of aspect, and the girl will know the area so he wont get lost when he's out and about sightseeing.

The only word of caution I have is to look up the rules for the state he's going to. He's not old enough to drink in the US so he needs to know not to do that, and some states she might be too young for sex, depending on her age obviously.

    Thankyou :o

if it came completely out of the blue then your OH just instantly reacted without thinking, makes no difference, he will now have time to think and ask him endless questions, keep him safe, ask loads, wish him well and look forward to all his fantastic tales of his adventure:D

I hope they have skyped so he knows she is real, amd it won't be'a wasted journey, don't ring the lasses mother tho its for younger kids IMO

No, they havn't skyped, and apparently she has no web cam facility (sorry im not very technically minded) .. All they have seen of eachother are still images, and spoken through a microphone that I often see on his desk .. Maybe you could explain to me how they do that :)

Well you thought wrong. Perhaps he didn't appreciate the debt being forgotten? If it's paid off today as you say, then perhaps he'll start responding in the way you think he should.

Maybe your OH was miffed that he could afford to go to America when he still owed him money.

No, he really isn't like that

    Venus/Mars. :D

You did the emotional OP, your husband did the practical. Whether that was serious practical or jokey practical doesn't matter.

Don't read anything into it or blow it out of proportion.

For the record, that is exactly the type of response my OH would come out with too. :)

On the other hand - if my daughter spent a year talking to someone on the internet then said he was flying over, I'd make sure she was going to be safe.
Firstly by buying a webcam and setting up Skype so I could make sure he was genuine.
Worries me a bit that does, sorry.
I wish him well otherwise and hope it's all good. x

Does the show "Catfish" spring to anyone elses mind?

Yes!!! I kept thinking it was called crayfish and was getting awfully annoyed with g00gle for not finding what I was looking for :rotfl:

Skype is free or it was last time i used it, she needs a webcam in america I know they are as cheap as they are here, its so they can have instant face to face communication, basically just so your son knows she is a female of the right age group etc.... reminds me of talhotblond too!!!

I hope this lass is genuine, your son sound like he could do with a bit of a confindence boost best of luck to him.
