Royal Mail Have Delivered to wrong address.

Not only would the postcode be wrong the name would also be wrong, as the person at number 270 would not have the same name as the person in 207, of course if could be my mistake but I can 100% say that I checked and double checked considering its a 600£ laptop. the delivery driver himself has quoted he had trouble understanding the address which it would also appear the post office clerk had the same problems but you would think if there was any doubt the post man would double check and not deliver it to any number 270 even if the postcode is completely different to the parcel, that at least is one thing my receipt can back up in my favor. the postcode!
RM deliver to an address rather than a person, gotta say red-boxer does have a point that two separate people have looked at the parcel and thought 270 rather than 207 which does seem to suggest something wasn't right there.
I think the problem you have here is RM have done their job too well, the postcode will cover a lot of homes but there is presumable only 1 number 270 nearby so they've assumed the postcode is wrong and delivered here when I guess they should have returned to sender.
If the buyer says they don't have the item you could advise them to report the theft to the police and obtain a crime reference number, if they do this you can be fairly certain that they don't have the item.
Just add if Paypal do ask for the receipt they won't really care about anything other than it not being correct, on the up side if they just look at the tracking you'll win regardless of what the buyer says.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

Well that is the issue, if the address doesn't match up you would think a special delivery item insured for 600£ and with a cost of £25.50 would be looked after properly rather than guessing its a sender error and delivering it to a different persons postcode. Not only this, but like I have said according to the above the driver is down on the system as saying he delivered a SD with a neighbor! this to me suggests they have far from done there job "to well".
Thanks for your reply.0 -
Problem with the neighbour part is the point of delivery, if it was the main front door and a neighbour has answered, as far as I know, job correctly done and they are still delivering to the main delivery point of the building.
This is the reason I hate sending anything to this kind of address. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

You have to remember you arent talking about a full different postcode
you are referring to a sector
so for Edinburgh,EH16 (being the delivery office area) then the next part relating to a sector
a sector can be for 1 building to many
Delivery staff dont really look at Post Codes as such
Items are misaddressed and rerouted all the time
The issue for you (as i see it) is you technically sent the item to a non existent address
you postcode and building number dont tally0 -

That really depends on the official delivery point(s) of the building
However as I posted earlier,"flat to the left" doesn't sound like an official RM address to me.
I would have been confirming that on the RM site before sending0 -

They usually look like Flat 2L, 207 officially or very common to see is something like 1F2, 207, judging by Google street view these kinds of places are always massive buildings, with one traditional looking front door, which have been converted into flats.
Even if flat to left didn't officially exist it's fairly common to find a house converted into flats but RM database just has it has the main house number on the street rather than each flat in the house. Again I've Googled a few address RM say it just, for example, number 47 and you can clearly see the buzzer on the door for several flats. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

buzzers dont equal delivery points inside
you get many many weird and wonderful set ups in flats
I have delivered(or tried to) deliver to flats that dont have any letterboxes!
so you get to the main door. see buzzers but upon getting inside theres no delivery point
for a properly set up set of flats, you would expect a delivery point per door (or letterbox per door at least)
I would be interested to find out from the OP what RM show as an address for the flat in 2070 -
I have just read all the threads and more confused is it 207 or 270.....if it was posted to the wrong address the people should have refused it or taken to delivery office ,as they are committing a crime by keeping an item of mail not addressed to them.
Take legal advice , get a crime reference number and call paypal, if you have to, cos if the signature window has the signers name under it should be provable in court that the addressee received and intercepted it and that is theft and fraud and criminal was also I would imagine very stupid of the post person who should have returned to sender if no such addressee there, or referred back to the sorting office manager for some advice! SD always bears the senders address on the reverse.
Involving the police to investigate is what I would do. This is expensive, and cost more than some people pay for a car!
Can you update what transpired as I am interested?
I once returned a folding table with a wonky leg, bought off ebay, to a person who had input the WRONG address in their (return) paypal address, I was advised by paypal to return to THAT address and not the correct one , so even paypal make mistakes and they overturned their decision because the seller had missed a letter off his postcode, he stayed in newcastle I believe that is NE and I was to return to to NP which was wales!! newport! The courier REQUIRED the postcode and I ticked NE19 not NP19 so they said "I had posted to a diff address to the one provided" **** off!
How the hell Paypal verified the address is beyond me the guy was at it....I appealed and spoke to them at paypal and it was sorted out the same day, the guy had signed for it and received it back!!! had the item back and my money and paypal were about to take HIS side? even though id duly returned it...got on my high horse right away and told the fella at paypal they had the WRONG postcode on file for the fella and ANYONE returning goods would be told same standard message, "you posted to wrong address we see in favour of the seller...."
arghhh.....0
