Royal Mail Have Delivered to wrong address.

Hi I recently sold something on Ebay that is fully insured via Royal Mail Special Delivery, let me make it clear that I am very careful when writing down address on valuable items.

Anyway I sent the item to the address and the Ebay member is now contacting me saying they never received the item, so I checked the tracking number and it was signed for, although the signature was just a squiggle nothing that looks the same, the guys name who should have received the item was printed underneath the signature in computer text.

So I checked the receipt and everything is the same except the door says 270 instead of 207, which I am certain there is no way I would make such a mistake! The only thing I can think of is the Royal Mail staff can't understand my writing and have misjudged what I wrote.
The buyer lives in a flat which says "flat to the left, no 270" on the receipt.

I have spoken to the buyer and he has been to number 270 who claim they have not received any delivery.

What shall I do and what options do I have from here, any help or anyone that has been through a similar situation would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

    You need to refund the buyer - as you cannot prove delivery to the correct address.

    Doubt you could claim too, as the receipt is wrong.

    270 could well have opened and used it - and then had the knock at the door.

    COPY AND PASTE all ebay addresses and PRINT them. Much easier and less room for error.

    Just a bit more information, there is not a number 270 in that postcode and the postcode it was supposedly delivered to. so therefore RM are in the wrong?

    problem is your POP states a wrong address
    If you want to get technical. I very much doubt 'flat to the left' is the official RM address either ;)
    regardless
    I would be contacting the buyers delivery office. see if they can speak to the postie on the duty and clarify whats happened

    What do you mean "the door says 270"?
    If you have addressed the parcel correctly, the receipt is irrelevant. Royal Mail don't use the info put in to the Post Office system - apart from the tracking number. They would deliver to the address on the packaging.
    Enter your tracking number into paypal and you would win a case.

    Like I say I have the receipt here, it says 270 instead of 207.

    But what I am getting at is the place it was delivered to does not exist, the house number is the same but the postman has delivered it to a completely different postcode than the one stated on the receipt.

    Like i say I honestly think this is a RM mistake and maybe they could not read my hand writing, i Do no know, but the fact remains the postie has sent the parcel to an address that does not exist.

    Also it said "Flat 2 Left" on the guys paypal shipping address so weather its official or not that is what was on there. I just copied it.

    Thanks in advance any more info would be appreciated.
  • I don't get this about your post, at first you said;

    'I have spoken to the buyer and he has been to number 270 who claim they have not received any delivery.'

    but then in your last post its;

    'But what I am getting at is the place it was delivered to does not exist'

    How can it not exist if the buyer has told you he/she has been there. I suggest they're probably trying it on

    He must have went down the street and checked at number 270. Im guessing he doesn't know what the postcode for number 270 is.

    Correct mate, the postcode on my receipt and the postcode that it has been delivered to are different, the postcode for number 270 is for example.

    270 CC 1AE
    207 CC 1AD

    The above is only an example they are not real postcodes, im just just using an example.

    So basically they have delivered it to the wrong postcode (although the address appears on the receipt) the postcode that also appears on the receipt does not exist in that door number.
