You can even do degrees in the speciality.
What about the princes trust to tide him over and maybe make him grow up a bit?
He was learning app design as part of his job (for mobile banking). One day a week was at college doing an IT qualification. He thought he would enjoy the job because of the links to gaming. He even mentioned skills gained through gaming to support his application for the job. I think that was partly why he got it.0 -
I have asked him this. He says he wants to be self sufficient by travelling and living off the land (in the UK, hasn't got a current passport). Hes never shown any desire in that direction before.
He has about £1000 saved.
OK - let's be positive about this. I was going to suggest CSV but if that is his latest interest.........
Refer him here http://www.wwoof.org.uk/ and give him one month to sort out a placementIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thank you Blackpool Saver. The bank doesn't employ idiots. He got his job after a full day assessment with apptitude tests, group activitities, making a presentation and one to one interview. 200 applicants were interviewed, 40 per day over 5 days. Out of the 200, 20 were taken on.
You can be a waster without being an idiot.0 -

RAS had a look at the link. Thank you so much. If he is really serious that could be just the thing:T0 -
What is CSV
Community Service Volunteers.
They provide full-time supported volunterring opportunities to all those who want it. A very good way of getting late teens away from home and letting them grow up fast.
Placement, basic accomodation and a small personal budget for food etc. Take people with difficult backgrounds. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
You must be seething with frustration. How long does you son think £1000 will last? Sounds as if it's time for some new rules in your house. He does his own washing & laundry and if he's not paying you for any keep, he has to do his fair share of household chores like cleaning, vacuuming, gardening, etc.
He also has to be out of bed by a specific time every morning.
And no money given to him for any hobbies, beer, visits to friends, etc. Most of us have had to endure "boring" times in our jobs at some point or other to pay bills, rent or mortgage. It's time he grew up and learnt that if you don't put anything in, you don't get anything out.
Stick with your resolutions. If you become a soft touch you'll only encourage him to delay getting his act together.0 -

Just warn him that a lot of these venues have limited power supplies so gaming might be limited!
Others might however want someone to set up an on-line shop etc as well as do forestry and market gardening. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Hi
Def cut off the electricity during the day. He won't be able.to.access the internet without any electricity. Would also disable internet at night when u go to bed to stop online gaming if that's what he is into to stop all night online gaming. I have wireless router so would just unplug that.0 -
As much as cutting off the electricity during the day sounds appealing, how does this frustrated parent stop her fridge and freezer defrosting without a continuing electricity supply?
She could, however, tell him that he must pay for his own food out of his savings now he's voluntarily given up two jobs, as part of funding his keep. And now he's got all the time in the world, he could go and buy the food himself. Finding out how much even a few basic food items cost would be an ideal lesson for him in learning about some of the financial facts of life.0
