Mine would get no money and I would even be reluctant to feed him tbh.. clothes etc would not be replaced.

Def get the heating/leccy turned off during the day.. he will soon shift himself if he cannot live off you. My sister is 25 and exactly the same. Her room at my mothers is squalid there is so much crap on the floor it is the same height as the bed! She doesn't get money because she hasn't bothered to fill out the forms, even though they can be done online. She is just a lazy cow. She contributes nothing to the house, not even putting in her own laundry! She got up at 8pm yesterday then posts on facebook in the middle of the night that she can't sleep!.. wonder why?.

You need to lay those ground rules now, it seems harsh and mean but is necessary. They have to learn.

Living of the land in lean months can be extremely boring. Foraging means food is samey. A job would have left him top days a week to travel, in more comfort!

I would be putting a password on the internet access and finding small holDers for him to get this living of the land thing out of his system. We have a small holding with no heating or hot water ATM, and everyday is the same and they all have lots of animal droppings and being cold in them! ;)

Change the password for the internet. Every day if you have to. Make him at least do jobs around the house for his keep (food only). Unless he does his jobs, he won't be given the Internet password. Tell him that if he gets a job and keeps it, he can have internet access whenever but until then, the restrictions will be on. He won't like it, of course, but he'll learn quickly enough hopefully.

Do not give him money for anything. If he uses the landline, charge him for the call. Make him pay some of the broadband charges and part of the tv licence if he watches tv.

I may sound harsh, but the real world can be very harsh. :)

does he have a mode of transport to go travelling and living off the land? Does he have a tent? If he's got a plan and thats what he's intending doing, then at least its a plan.

He can't drive. Says he is going to walk or public transport (till money runs out). He has got a tent. He says he's going to buy waterproofs and decent boots (out of his £1000).He has no idea how to live off the land. Closest he came was learning how to skin a rabbit at Scouts (rabbit was bought from a shop)

I sympathise with you OP, rant away, but maybe he'll be okay, get the travelling done and out of his sytem, and then settle down a bit and find a way to keep the wolf from the door.
    I do hope so

Has anyone seen " The World's Strictest Parents" on TV? I wish I could send him on that.

I do hope you'll be charging him full market rent. He has £1000 saved so that should last him at least two months.

He says he wants to be self sufficient by travelling and living off the land
