Advisor complaint, this is inane madness!!!

I am a 50 year old male, have worked virtually all my adult life in good jobs and this included running my own company for 7 years, I own my own home, all be it mortgaged to the hilt :), yet now I am deemed by a off beat tramp looking advisor that due to me not getting any o levels 34 years ago, am in need of adult reading and numeracy class, and if I don't attend then my mammoth £72 per week will be withdrawn for 13 weeks. This is complete lunacy!!!

I have just lost my job on the 11th January due to another downturn in construction in my area, I am a qualified Bricklayer and have been a site manager for 7 years, I ran my own company, which i'm trying to get off the floor again, for 7 years and this was successful till the dynamic credit crunch.

Why should I let a dishevelled tramp looking guy with wolf on his name tag?? talk to me with no level of decency and just ignore my plea to talk to somebody else about the diabolical situation.

The guy was seriously non descriptive and seemed to be following a script which if I asked a question knocked him completely out of kilt. I am not happy and wish to complain to somebody, I was that angry that I couldn't ask anyone else there and they were closing up as it was 5 oclock.

Any help there please :)

Do you have a written decision on this? I think you should try to find the route to appeal. To me it is quite obvious that you must be reasonably numerate to run a bricklayiing company and your post shows you are beyond basic literacy. So the money would be far better spent on genuinely needy candidates.

But when you appeal, leave out the stuff about the advisor being a tramp, true though it may be.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • I'am surprised that he knew what a O' Level was. These people are making job-seeker's with maths and english degrees do these courses. I would make a complaint in writing to the manager, If you get no joy with them, take it up with the area manager.

    You have my sympathy.

I run my own company and a couple of yers ago thought I would enrol on a basic book keepping course at the local evening school. The young lady behind the enquiry desk told me that I had to sit a basic numeracy test to see "If I could cope with the maths". I asked her that as I had 7 'O' Levels, 2 'A' levels, a HND, a BSc, an MSc, professionally qualified, spent 5 years as a senior lecturer at University at sub degree, degree and post-graduate level, was an instructor with the British Army and now run my own company did she not think I was capable of basic nemeracy? To which she replied "You have to do a test to see if you can cope with the maths".

I never did enrol on the course.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to ring tomorrow and ask for the complaints procedure, should be interesting lol.

Whatever happened to common sense?? These morons must be responsible to somebody, I realise they will come across a lot of deadwood but a quick look at my CV would of told him I'm reasonably literate and not numerically challenged.

Wonder how much these companies charge to teach us unfortunates, the mind boggles

I am not so sure about this. Surely you need to appeal a stupid decision rather than complain?

The JC is full of idiots following a system, following rules, lacking commonsense, lacking discretion.

    They become institutionalised morons.
  • nothing more to add, except that I spent over two hours on the phone with JCP being pushed around from pillar to post, being told to call this n umber, call that number..only to be told to call the number i first called originally! - I only wanted a time for my JSA based interview!!

So, you are not alone with these plebs, trust me.

OP sorry to hear that you lost your job hopefully things will look up when you set up your own business again.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun

Hi, i really feel for you as this is a sick game they play at the tax payers expense and send as may sheep as they can to go nowhere courses and get paid per head for all who attend. It totally stinks and i would advise suggest that you complain like hell to your MP asap. Its crazy what they are getting away with, the guardian BBC 5 live and channel 4 may also be interested to hear your views and experiences on all this. The DWP guidelines state that when a WP provider is mandating something to a claimant it has to be agreed upon between you and has to be REASONABLE,if you feel its not then tell those financial sharks about it.

Shouldn't be long now until they all go bankrupt:T.The european monetary fund wont prop them up forever on a 3% success rate. Depending how we all measure success:)

    Good luck.
