If you went on a literacy / numeracy course then you could learn the difference between there and their
(here and there, or their toys)
Unfortunatly, there is this emphasis on having the pieces of paper to say you can do soemthing, inc literacy and numeracy, and they could even send you on an NVQ in Bricklaying if you had no qualification in this. It's all about having the right pieces of paper, stuff experiance as far as the DWP are concerned. Employers my well look at the same thing. I know an excellent chef who can't get a catering job because he hasn't got an NVQ in it. He just worked his way up from pot wash, but this counts for nothing.
As I said in my earlier post, the DWP believes that level 2 qualification is the answer to anything.
Have you considered getting a post as an NVQ assessor, or teaching young people in Bricklaying / construction? Apprenticeship? If so, you will need to have a piece of paper that says your literacy / numeracy is of grade c+ standard. Lots of places do a literacy / numeracy / ict test as part of recruitment. Even teachers who have a degree in English or Maths and have O Level GCSE C+ have to sit a test in Literacy / Numeracy and ICT to qualify.
Its not a nice experiance being unemployed and having to do all this, but that is the system and as others have said, the labour market has changed considerably over the past few years, employers are being more picky about who they choose and if you don't have an equivilent qualification and someone else dose, then your application will be the one in the bin. A sad but true fact. You are just going to have to swallow your pride, accept the situation for what it is, or get a job.
Be careful. If you're going to pick up on someone else's spelling then make sure you're whiter than white

I did O Level Maths and English (grade
some 35/36 years ago and had to do Adult Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 as part of a Business Admin NVQ a few years ago.
I don't know how long the 'course' is supposed to run for, but I asked to be put in for both exams A.S.A.P. The tutor mock tested me and agreed, she was wasting her time being there truth be told.
I don't think I saw her more than 3 times (couple of hours at most) and most of that time was spent filling in forms and having a cuppa and a chat.0 -
You think its fine to be spoken to like I'm some kind of social outcast scrounging from the state, I don't:)
I'm sure you won't be the first and certainly not the last. But as i said before, your no one special, but if you think you then good luck with that each time you sign on. The job centre staff treat everyone the same. I ve never been spoken to in a rude manner, maybe its you, all in your head.
Seems like you may have a chip on your shoulder.
If your worried about how you were spoken too, then it seems you lack self confidences. Don't take it personally.:D0 -

for the SAME reason that my O levels are required to be written on EVERY application form I complete, even though I passed them over 30 years ago AND I have professional qualifications that supersede these by a long chalk.just in case you need to know:

I don't think the OP is arrogant far from it, more like frustrated at the situation. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0
