Road tax costs a fortune to collect, is frequently avoided and costs a fortune to prosecute (for a paltry fine at the end of it). Put the tax on fuel; the more you drive, the more you pay. 'Rich' people, driving gas guzzlers, automatically pay more.0

Basic job seekers allowance, NOT long term incapacity, should be given to drug addicts, alcoholics and obese people who CHOOSE this lifestyle. They are NOT disabled, they have a choice - unlike genuinely disabled people. This would save millions of £'s every year.0

Insurance is so expensive that many just don't have it, costing everyone else more money. If caught, the fines are derisory. Make the punishment fit the crime; depending on the age/driving record of the person caught with no insurance, Court could have a scale of charges/fines based on , say, double what it would have cost if the person HAD insured their car. Thus crime would not pay, as it does now. This is a no brainer surely?0

Why can't we pay our Road Tax by monthly Direct Debit especially in the current climate. A lot of people - like me - have Road Tax over the £150 cost each year and it is a lot to find in one go.
If they divided the amount you pay by say 10 instalments and then send it out a month before it was due - like the TV licence - it would be easier to have that money debited monthly from your account.
That way they would have their money upfront and we could afford our road tax easier.

Taking 25% cash my remaining fund of £87000 buys annuity of £3800paguaranteed 10 years. To recoup fund plus 2% interest takes 25 years. If I die within10 years the provider keeps £40000, most unfair.
Increase lump sum to 50% and/or pay 50% of the residue to my estate.

The lack of trade in town centres over recent years is always on the news. If councils are wanting to encourage spending in their town centre shops, why does the parking charge increase the longer you stay in the town centre? Surely, the longer someone spends walking around the shops, the more they're likely to spend!0

... at supermarkets? As the badge-holder is certified to be able to manage just 50 yards or fewer, it must be so frustrating to just reach the fresh produce in the shop and have to return to the car.0

Scrap road tax and add a similar priced road usage fee to be collected by insurance companies. Certificate of road usage and insurance to be displayed on windscreen of cars. Would cut down on untaxed and uninsured vehicles.Trying to do the right things right0

The VAT on labour is essentially an unfair tax burden on sole traders who supply labour AND goods. eg Engineer who supplies and fits boilers/ central heating. If he does 4 jobs per month he will have to register for VAT and charge an extra 20% for his labour in comparison to unregistered & black market.
So someone who pays VAT has to work 5 weeks to have the same money as someone who who does not - and they both pay income tax anyway.
This means that the none vat registered householder saves 20% on their bill.
When supplying a new boiler or any other (or all parts) the engineer always passes the original receipt from the suppler directly to the customer at cost. (His labour charges are taken into account to cover loss of profit on boiler or parts and clients guarantee for them is with seller not installer) This way his yearly turnover is lower than the vat threshold and he does not have to register for or charge vat. Business clients can still claim the vat on parts from supplier and are also charged lower labour costs so are more lightly to use this person for work. Sole traders should check with their accountants the details of how to implement this and if suitable for their particular business circumstances. The richard montgomery matter0 -
We spend bucketful’s of cash keeping criminals and terrorists in Britain becausetheir human rights might be infringed if we extradite them. What about thehuman rights of the people they have wronged. Extradite them asap. They shouldhave thought about the consequences before committing a crime. Save usmillions.
