I am not sure that a mandatory requirement to inform customers of an increase in the SVR can be classed as marketing. This is the area of confusion that the poster needs to investigate.
I think the poster is saying they are no longer a customer. If this is the case then the advice is no longer mandatory - it's marketing.

I think the problem is probably that Ovo's IT system thinks the poster is still a customer and that's what needs to be corrected.

  • I'm still getting emails from these idiots, notifying me of "a price increase on my variable rate" in January. This despite the fact I originally argeed to a fixed rate, and cancelled as soon as I realised they were playing bait and switch with the offer.

Seriously, save yourself the trouble. Avoid these con men like the plague. It's the same old mis-selling scam, with optimistic inertia thrown into the mix. It would seem they think if they play dumb hard enough, I'll just forget that I cancelled as soon as it became apparent they couldn't supply what they'd advertised.

One more email from them and I'm making a complaint to Ofgem. This industry appears rotten to the core.

From all the subsequent threads you have created/posted in on this site about this issue, it would appear you applied for the Ovo Simpler tariff, which is Ovo's variable tariff
    - it says so on their website, on the Cheap Energy club and was even confirmed to you in the confirmation email you received.

(the only mistake is that your online account that would only be available to you after you applied to Ovo indicated that the Simpler tariff was fixed)

However, as you elected to cancel your switch entirely, rather than accept the tariff you applied for, or an Ovo fixed tariff they were prepared to put you on if you wished, then I agree they should no longer be sending you emails.
Perhaps you were too late cancelling the switch to prevent the recent bulk email from being sent to you?

Presumably, cancelling a switch isn't just a matter of a supplier deleting you from its system as wheels will already have been turning from the day of application to switch. The supplier presumably has to notify all other parties to cancel previous instructions etc.

Why? Call them on day 1 and switch. I have been with Ovo twice in the past 3 years, and switching away was never an issue.

Ive been trouble free with Ovo till now , but I let my credit build up too far to £250 left immediately after last bill. Applied for a refund on 6th Dec but no response at all, so Ive decided to leave and go with MSE Flo energy two Winter fix and will just hassle Ovo for my refund on leaving .

As a matter of interest - once I go through MSE to do a recommended switch, will Ovo immediately take me off my fixed rate contract ending Feb 3 and put me onto their basic variable rates until the switch is completed, or leave me on the fixed rate till they complete?
  • I was with OVO for a year until I jointed a collective switch. The service I received from OVO was excellent. They were quick to answer my questions and their website easy to use. If they become competitive again, I will have no hesitation in switching back. On leaving, I was paid interest on my credit held.

Providing your new supplier notifies Ovo of your request to switch, Ovo must leave you on your current rates until the switch completes "within a reasonable period of time" (Suppliers' Standard Licence Conditions).
