Originally switched to OVO dual fuel because they were the cheapest and have had no problems whatsoever with the service. In hindsight, I would rather stay with OVO even if they end up costing slightly more.

At time of writing, the switch away from OVO to Sainsbury's Energy (as part of the MSE Cheap Energy Club) is still in limbo because Sainsbury's Energy seem unable or unwilling to give OVO a final reading for electricity. Lack of communication from Sainsbury's Energy to let me know what's happening.

That should be no reason to stop the switch occurring.

All it may do is cause billing complications.

I'm scared to risk it because I've had enough "complications" from Sainsbury's Energy. The problem is on their end so I feel like the best I can hope for is that the dust will settle, and hopefully soon. Then I'll feel better about looking at switching back to Ovo or elsewhere.

It seems to me that when you switch energy suppliers, the only thing being switched is the billing.

If the losing supplier has not yet produced an acceptable final bill and refunded any credit balance, the switch has not completed IMHO.

Are you listening Ovo and Sainsbury's?

This is not the place for me to rant about Sainsbury's Energy (AKA British Gas). Plenty of that from myself and others can be found over on their MSE thread. The screw-up is not on Ovo's end. Other people are having similar problems with their Sainsbury's Energy switch regardless of existing supplier.

So here's the thing... Ovo can't produce the final bill until they get a reading from new supplier Sainsbury's Energy. Ovo sent a final bill for Gas because Sainsbury's Energy bothered to give Ovo my reading for Gas. What's holding up the Electricity switch is that Ovo is still waiting for Sainsbury's Energy/British Gas to give them my final Electricity reading.

That is true, but in my case Ovo have refused to produce a statement based on the last meter reading I gave them prior to the "switch" date, and have refused to refund any of my £400 credit balance.

I have just switched from OVO to Sainsburys and had no problems from the Sainsburys end but found that even after 4 weeks of switching OVO were still taking the monthly direct debit. contacted them for a refund and was told it would be a couple of days. 8 days later still no refund, contacted again and told that the refund failed due to their systems and it would take another 14 days. fingers crossed the refund will be actioned before they take the next direct debit goes out.

The moral there is to cancel your DD at the bank as soon as the final bill has been settled.

Cheshire East and Ovo sign deal to bring Fairerpower to residents

    December 11, 2014
Cheshire East Council is delighted to have entered into a contractual partnership with a recognised energy supplier to offer competitive energy in the Borough and, potentially, the wider North West region.

Cheshire East is the first local authority in the country to sign up with Ovo Energy, which aims to offer substantial savings against the national average tariff rates charged by the Big Six suppliers.

It means that Cheshire East will be the first council to sell energy in the UK since nationalisation in 1948. ...
