  • I just left them. Within 2 weeks of joining them they sent me a letter stating they need to read my meter. Within that letter was a threat of bailiffs access should I not allow access and that this would cost me. I had no previous written correspondence whatsoever and never stated I'd not allow them access.
So four weeks later and three 'no shows' from E.On they paid me £67.50 (3 * 22.50) industry fees for not turning up.
    I'm out and thankfully so.

Probably just coincidence -but I received a letter from EON re an electric meter swop the same day as my switch to them was supposed to be complete -haven't arranged it yet - my previous supplier haven't yet closed my account and I don't want a new meter clouding the issue of opening/closing reads!!!

I'm just changing to EON with the Cheap Energy Club (slightly cheaper than EDF and I have stacks of Credit with EDF, so will reclaim ) .Main problem EON have sent me two emails wanting meter readings .

    1) You need an account number to be able to register and log in

    2) The youtube video they give you saying how to give a meter reading without logging in does nothing of the sort . (I've watched it 3 times ; the only mention of people joining says you may not be able to give meter readings on line !)

I have logged 2 queries with them via their on line form with no reply.

All would be sorted if EON gave you an account number to start with !! <<
I had excatly the same problem, apparently when you first apply they send you an a/c no, which is of course weeks ago so you probably like me didnt take a note of it. They then keep asking for meter readings & find as above you cant give them & every e-mail has the useless "No Reply" on it so you have to do the old, name, address, yada yada all over again, and no i dont want to go to Twitter or facebook to contact you!!
  • Hi Everyone,

Have anyone got a screenshot/ remembers the tariff that was on offer from E-ON back in November please?

    Thanks a million,

My switch to E.ON completed a couple of weeks ago but I haven't had a bill or payment yet (due to the direct debit date chosen). The direct debit they chose was exactly what I'd predicted so that's good.

Only issue I've had was that the website wouldn't accept my opening meter readings and kept coming up with an error, so I sent them an online message instead and they sorted it out that way. Seems to be a common problem when customers return to a supplier - their systems get confused if you have two accounts or one account with multiple addresses.

    Hi drkofglos

I'm sorry we've sent you emails asking for meter readings earlier than needed. We're aware of this issue and are working to fix it.

We don't need the readings until the date we start supplying you. You can, though, let us have the readings a few days before this.

Before we reach this stage, there's a 14 day cooling off period where you can change your mind about the switch. Once this is over, we'll send you a Welcome Pack. As well as details of the tariff and start date, this will have your account number. From here, you can register online.

It's possible to register online during the cooling off period although there's very little you can do before the account goes live. To do this, you'll need to contact us for the account number.

To enter readings without logging in, please go to 'Give a Meter Read' about half way down the first page and select 'not registered online?' This will open a page with boxes for the account number/post code/email address. Pop in these details and continue. This'll take you to the screen where you can enter your readings. Sorry the video didn't help.

Sorry again we're asking for meter readings too early and for the late reply to the emails you've sent. We try to reply to all emails within five working days.

    Morning Malc,

Still on EnergyPlan. Got no contact from E-On about this Cheap Energy Club or anything else. (Apart from 2 letters of account number which I called to set up.)

    :(

    Thanks, HawkFun.

    Hi HawkFun

Energy Plan is our standard tariff. This is the one customers are automatically put on when they don't go for another product. There's no exit fees or tie-ins with this tariff leaving you free to change supplier without penalty.

We had several tariffs on the go in November. Do you mean the Collective Switching Tariff available only through MSE's Cheap Energy Club? If you do, this finished on 6 November 14.

Of the tariffs generally available, our 1 year fix and Age UK tariffs changed on 28 November 14. The 2 year fix has remained the same since December 13. Full details of all our tariff s are available on the website. If you've registered online, you can switch tariffs through our website too.

For a fuller picture, best to pop your usage in kWh on to one of the independent comparisons site. This will show all your options both with is and with the other suppliers.

Hope this helps HawkFun. Let me know if you need any more information as happy to help.

    Hi HighamKneeDee

This sounds like what we call a Must Inspect visit. This is where we haven't been able to see a meter for a long time. It also applies where customers give us their own readings as we need to make sure the meter is safe and accurate.

Usually, if we haven't inspected the meter for 21 months, we'll write asking to book a visit. The visit is free and will be arranged for a mutually convenient time.

As well as asking to visit, the letters will outline the possible actions that may be necessary should we be unable to see the meter. This includes, as a last resort, the possibility of applying for a warrant to enter the property.

Customers who've recently joined us may also receive these letters as the previous supplier will have told us the last time the meter was seen. It's the responsibility of the current supplier to make sure all is well with the meter.

Sorry about the 'no shows.' Looks like we've given you payments under the Guaranteed Standards of Service arrangements. These apply where we fail to turn up for an agreed appointment unless prevented by circumstances beyond our control like bad weather.

Hope this helps explain why we sent the letter.

    Hi Malc,

Sent you an email to WebForumAdvisors <@> eonenergy.com about the problems with my MSE Collective switch.

I'd be grateful if you could take a look for me please.

    Hi brewerdave

This sounds a bit different from the Must Inspect I've just posted about. Suspect this is a statutory change (also known as a meter re-certification or policy exchange).

With these, when a meter reaches the end of its lifespan, the company looking after it will be in touch asking to swap it. Meters are designed to last for a number of years. The actual lifespan, though, will depend on the type of meter in question.

Depending on the region, we may be the meter operator responsible for its maintenance or it could be another company. Even where we're the meter operator, we may use third party contractors to do the work.

When you're ready, please contact the number on the letter. They'll make an appointment to do the work. This isn't something our advisors can help with.

    Hope this explains brewerdave.
